I have seen other post with this name but I have to say that I have been very satisfied by my engagement ring. The shop is not on the street but quite amazing and in an old fashion way.
I could get exactly what I wanted and not to mention that the prices are unbeatable. Will definitely come back for the wedding one...

Wow, this thread started a long time ago. See reference to West on Grafton Street which is closed nearly two yeras now. With the price of metal going up and set to continue I would advise people to act sooner rather than later on their purchase decision. Let Google be your friend for the search, leads of jewellers out there.

Would anyone know if it's possible to add some diamonds I already have to my wedding ring? Would it be very expensive? Could anyone recommend someone in Munster area?

My ring is solid, maybe 3mm wide, palladium and was made to fit around my engagement ring, a .50 pear cut - at the time I couldn't afford diamonds and it never occurred to me to use what I already have.
I own two rings (given by my now husband through the years, one probably .25 round cut and one ring with 3 smaller round cut - probably 3/4 of the .25 one)
I never wear them as I can't stand wearing lots of rings, so they are only going to waste and I don't really want to have an eternity ring (my fingers are small and three rings would be very uncomfortable) and thought adding the diamonds to the wedding would be the same as having an eternity ring... Just an idea I'm throwing about?

a friend of mine bought an engagement ring from towers in blanch and the diamond fell off,they fixed it, and it came back with lumps of glue on it,heard customer care on the matter was a disgrace,they messed him around big time,, i dont recommend the place at all

Hey, as it turned out we got our wedding bands from Tower Jewellers in the end. They took an absolute age to make the rings. The man who sold us our bands was a very good salesman who looked after our request, however we ended up paying more for the rings than originally agreed.

I had to get my wedding band re-sized after the honeymoon as it was too big and I nearly lost it several times. This isn't an issue with the jewellers.

The wedding band was Paladium with brushing similar to this, however after getting it re-sized it came back looking like this ring.

It took them four weeks to re-sized it, so by the time I got it back I was just glad to have it, so I never made a complaint. My loss. I just didn't want to leave the ring in for another four week wait to get it back again. In their favour, I will state that they never charged me for the re-sizing.

I should have made a complaint but I actually liked the way the ring looked when I got it back. Just my experience.

Stay Away from "DELPHI ANTIQUES" in Powerscourt Shopping Centre, Dublin.

My beloved bought my engagement ring there and I have had nothing but problems since. The owner Declan was very difficult to deal with when I discovered a crack in the stone 2 days later!

Since then I've brought to another jewellers who has told me that there are 5 claws broken (even though I paid declan for all the claws to be strengthened etc). The ring is an antique.

Stay away for your own peace of mind.

And we too met Seamus from Voltaire and had no complaints. I just wanted something different and Boy oh boy did we get suckered!

I now wear a M&S €10 ring. GGGRrrrrrrrrrr

I bought my wife's ring in South Africa, it was a bit small, I brought it into a jewellers in Dublin who practically butchered it to make it bigger. SInce then the ring has lost all shape and she can't wear it any more

Corr’s Jewellers in the Powerscourt Centre re-sized my fiancée's engagement ring for us and we found them fantastic. The ring is a vintage piece with a pearl at it's centre, so not an easy job to re-size either.

Completely unique, incredibly personal and its wonderful knowing how much effort went into making them. The couple that make them keep in touch with you throughout the process and send pictures of the rings at various stages of completion.

I love mine and I know in years to come I'm gonna look at it and be reminded of how special it is, how much effort went into it and how it represents our love of the natural world and of each other.

Beltzar - I would be really keen to know some more about what happened regarding your ring......Did you ever ask any questions regarding damage to the ring before you bought it? Was it possible for you to get your money back in the end? Do you think they have it back on sale again (would hate to think that someone else may end up with the same damaged ring without knowing about the issues prior to purchase)?

I have fallen in love with a beautiful antique ring in the same shop but as you can appreciate I am rather concerned and reluctant to buy it after reading your message.

If anyone else has any further feedback on this shop it would be much appreciated?

I still have the ring. I asked the jeweller there to replace the centre stone which he did at extra cost. I figured just pay it, and be done. Then when I went back to collect the ring he told me he had gotten it cleaned and the claws strengthened, so I was charged for that as well:mad: - I know, I shouldnt have paid for it, it should have been done before I bought the ring.
At that time my father had passed away suddenly, my mother had become very ill so I just wanted all of this sorted - which I also told the owner that "fine - whatever" please just give me my ring.

A few months later one of the small diamonds fell out, I brought it to a different jewellers (obviously - I will never set foot in that shop again) who said that at least 5 of the claws needed replacing, the ring had never been cleaned and we had been vastly over charged.

I am not enjoying this writing this email as it upsets me to think back to that horrible time, when I wear my ring at speacial occasions, its tainted in my mind and I am trying to forget that horrendous experience.

I hope this answers your question. If you go with this shop BE SURE you agree upon maintenance, come back, where does he send it to for repairs (we had to wait for months) etc.

I was just wondering if someone could give me some recommendations here. I am looking for a plain Claddagh ring (no stones etc) in Palladium, but I am having trouble finding places that stock them. After reading through this thread I saw that a lot of people had their rings specially made so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of getting a Claddagh ring made (or any ring made) in palladium in Ireland? Could anyone recommend a jewelers here that might be able to make what I am looking for (hopefully for a reasonable price)?

Im not sure where you are based, but there is a jeweller in Monaghan called Annette Lappin, she makes all the jewellery she sells. She made both engagement and wedding rings for both of my sisters weddings (all one of a kind).. I've a friend who wanted a claddagh ring made out of some gold necklace he inherited, and she was able to melt it down and make it. I think she specialises in things like that.

I just picked up our Engagement ring from Gleeson Goldsmiths in Shannon where it was being repaired. I brought it to him because he was praised by our friends who used him in the past as he makes the rings and settings for you.

Our White Gold Engagement ring had been damaged so he replaced the settings with a Platinum clustered setting and re-did the ring in Platinum. It looks like a new ring. My OH was thrilled when I brought it home to her.

Is he cheap? No. Do you get what you pay for? Yes, which is high quality work and confidence they are the right people for it.

So here comes the predictable bit - the valuation came in at €700 - €1000! I rang the guy in the shop and told him about it, to which he insisted that the ring was worth what we paid and online valuations were meaningless. Grand, so I confirmed with him that a proper insurance valuation would produce a number closer to four times that amount - 'absolutely'.

Went looking for a valuer in Dublin, and this bit might serve as a warning for those buying jewellery here - none of the valuers will look at pieces bought in the Republic within the last 12 months! I approached a valuer and claimed the ring was a family piece (apologies if you are reading, but wasn't going abroad for a valuation to compound my losses) - she did a full valuation looking at all gems, gold content, etc and concluded it was worth ... €1000.

This time I went into the shop again to state my case. The degree of denial was mind-boggling ranging from assertions that trained, registered jewellery valuers don't know the value of jewellery and he does - I even asked if going to a third valuer would mean anything (no) - to spurious comments like, "We don't sell jewellery that cheap" (I know). The responses seemed unsurprised and practised, and my request for a refund was flatly denied. I then asked for a receipt, at which point his composure melted and he began to look extremely uncomfortable, shuffled around for paper and pen, asked irrelevant questions and eventually scribbled something, folded the page twice and gave it to me. I left the shop and was walking out of Powerscourt when I checked the "receipt" - it was a piece of paper stating that I had "Left one wedding band for engraving, Yours Sincerely, Declan Corrigan."???

Went back to the shop and pointed out that I had asked for a receipt and received a note about engraving. "Oh, so you want prices on it?", yes - he took the paper back and wrote the prices for the 2 rings on the bottom with no signature, again folding it. I opened it there and then and asked for a proper receipt; very flustered he asked me to leave the shop for 10 minutes and come back for the receipt. I did and checked and collected it when I returned.

Anyway, we realise that we don't have much come-back here, but hope this will warn people of his antics in future. Would be very interested to hear opinions on the receipt fiasco though.

Hi trav. As one of those "Registered valuers who don't know the value of jewellery" based in Dublin I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth. I won't mention the name of my company or website as what I have to add is important and I'd hate it to be taken down by Boards because it looked like I was promoting my business. First of all registered valuers are the highest trained jewellery experts working in the trade today. There are very few of us and due to the fact that we need to undertake many exams and constant monitoring in order to maintain our status as Registered valuers (nowadays referred to as IRV's). We also have to keep and maintain a laboratory of expensive equipment in order to do our job... equipment that is rarely found in a retailer unless they have an IRV on staff. An IRV certainly knows the value of jewellery as its their job to know. In order to get an accurate valuation its vital that the valuer actually sees the item so using online valuation services such as Valuemystuff can prove unhelpful. The estimates they provide are ballpark SELLING estimates. In otherwords, a rough idea of what you may get if you sold the item at auction less auction fees. It is interesting however that the valuer who did a proper valuation on it came up with a similar figure. That figure is probably the right one (I suspect I know the valuer and she is very professional)... the value supplied by the online service would have just been dumb luck to get close. Colleagues of mine in the UK tested that service anonomously with items they owned and the estimates were wildly innacurate with gemstones incorrectly identified. I am sorry though, to hear that the service you received from a Dublin retailer was disappointing. I gave up retail many years ago as it was becoming more and more difficult. I hope in the end some retailers will take heed of your post and redouble their efforts to improve their service.

I bought my engagement ring in Delphi over the last few months. Until now I was happy with the experience and confident I have paid a reasonable price.
Starting to get slightly concerned now. May look into getting it valued sometime soon; although I might be better off not knowing if i have been ripped off in some way....

I did extensive research on engagement rings before finding my own,last October. I visited Delphi Antiques twice,once alone and once with my dreamboat to show him an emerald I had my eye on.
The first time I walked in,Declan eyed me suspiciously and was hesitant to open the door to me. He picked up the phone as soon as I walked in and rang a friend to discuss his two week holiday that he was taking the following day. I stood in front of him,making it obvious that I was looking to speak to him about the ring. He got pissed off and asked me what I wanted,(still on the phone!) I said that I was looking to purchase an engagement ring and had one in mind,could he help me.He told me to come back later. I said to him that I was shocked he was more interested in his holiday than helping a customer and I left the store.
I assumed by his behaviour that he was a part-time member of staff and not management/owner,which is why I returned another day with my fiancé. We went a week later,with me intending on letting the management know how he spoke to me and there was a sign on the door saying he was on a fortnight's holiday.
We also visited John Farrington Antiques on Drury St. and we were asked our budget as soon as we walked in the door.I told her and she produced rings five times that and said she had nothing that 'cheap'.
It would seem neither of these establishments have any concept of customer service and are unaffected by any downturn in the economy as they both turn customers away.
Thankfully we found the perfect ring,and wonderful service in another store where we had a lovely experience.

Me too, I've just read this now!!!!! That said I looked online and with the 4c's etc so if they are accurate my ring cost less than most similar ones (although I'm not sure exactly what paid!) Might get it valued, but I would grow to hate it if he was ripped off, even though I love it now

Had a very similar experience to Beltzar.. Bought my ring from Delphi antiques. Four months later a diamond fell out. Brought it back to Declan , the owner. He told me he would send it off for repair but at my own cost. Brought the ring to several other jewellers to see if they could repair it. All these jewellers informed me that the metal was completely worn down and weak and that the diamonds would have to be remounted. I told Declan what these jewellers had said and he denied selling me a worn out ring. I requested a full refund because he had sold me a ring unfit for its purpose, he refused. I kept on for a full refund, gathered information from jewellers on the bad condition of my ring and presented this to Declan. After six months he reluctantly give me a full refund. Happy ending but a very stressful time. Now have a perfect ring from Applebys, staff there couldn't have been nicer!

Hello, I hope I've posted in the right section and apologies in advance if I haven't.

I'm looking for advice here, or via PM.

To cut a long story short, I have a full diamond platinum ring that I want remade for various reasons.
There are 17 diamonds in total in the ring, round and baguette.

I've asked one reputable jeweller about doing this and his suggestion was to cut the ring in half, set one half beside the other and add a plain 6mm band around the inside. He suggested yellow gold to keep costs down. I'd prefer platinum myself.

Apparently this is going to cost around €600. I'm wondering if that's a fair price for the job and would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar ring remade.

Is it possible to get an independent valuation report from the jeweller? This would be good piece of mind.
I also saw a stunning antique ring and got it remade from www.bespokediamonds.ie - it took them 3 weeks to make and was a tricky Art Deco design and it looks great. Got certified diamonds and an independent valuation report from them too. The detail in my ring is fantastic - I just brought them a picture of the ring and they did the rest. While budget was a concern for me, I mainly wanted something to last and to sparkle and I definitely go that.
Love antique rings, so different and not like everything else, problem is thay are 100 years old so a reproduction is a good option. NOt sure how long an engagement is supposed to last but if something is 100 years old and still aroiund, its doing well. The main concern I had with original antique rings was the sparkle of the diamond - they were all hand cut and new diamonds are cut from lazers and so sparkle better (I have been told)

More problems with Declan from Delphi antiques. I was looking for an engagement ring in there last May. I went in because of a ring I found on their website which had a price on it. I went in and found it to find out it was a lot more expensive than the website price. He told me it couldn't be that price online so I took our my phone and showed him. He no longer has interest in trying to sell the ring and to be honest I no longer wanted to buy it there. Luckily I went to corrs jewelers and found the perfect ring and the man there was very friendly.
Such a shame Declan gets so many complaints. It really has a great selection of jewellery and it should be an enjoyable experience picking out the ring. Anyway at least it ended well for me.

I'm now looking for wedding bands and it's proving difficult. They can get very expensive and all look the same to me. If I bought a plain silver ring for approx 200 euro, would it last?

Of course it would last and it would cost you miles less than 200!
The thing with wearing different metal jewellery is that the harder one will wear out the softer metal. They also have slightly different colouration, so it may be noticeable when you have say, a white gold and a silver ring side by side.

That's good to hear. I would need something durable anyway because of my work and I don't mind what the actual material is

I know it's a while since I asked the above question, but I've been told by Voltaire that they don't remake rings.
Has anyone a recommendation via PM of course, of someone who would like to remake my platinum full eternity ring?
