Know nothing about Cars, Advice needed

Ok, I wanna buy my first car. Been driving for a few years now though.

So basically, What would be the best car for a guy in his early 20's to get?

I've only got around 2000 quid to spend on it now mind. Would I be able to get like, something between a 97-00 car? Dont want anything fancy, but then again dont want a fiesta or micra either.

Sorry, but I really have not got a clue about cars.
