    Hi All,

We have a scottie about 6 months old. she is smashing but totally hyper.

we have managed to house train her and walk her on the lead. However there are still one or two things we cannot get her to do not matter how hard we try.

She will not come back when she is called. if she gets out of the house at all she takes off and now way will she come back if called. We have to follow her and try to corner her to catch her.

Also She is a terror for digging up plants in the back Garden. My wife planted some flowers the other day and they lasted about an hour.

Anyone got any tips on how to train her to come back and also how to get her to stop uprooting the shrubs etc.

    Thanks

On the digging ...to some dogs a freshly dug hole is irresistible. Try burying some of her faecies in the whole the next times (if the gardener agrees) That should keep her from digging it up.

On the recall ...start with small distances ...tempt with food ...praise when she comes ...increase distance gradually ...praise/reward ...increase ... and always use the same command in the same tone of voice.

    Takes time though ...

Typical puppy mabey some small picket fencing around flower beds would help. At 6 months it's the age to neuter so have her spayed and by the time she's recovered the fence will be up lol

... On an extendable lead (so she doesn't take off before you've started) and has no choice but to come back. Eventually her return will be an automatic response, so instead of you retracting the lead to bring her, you should be retracting the lead to take up the slack.

If you let her out the house accidentally, instead of chasing her, run in the opposite direction encouraging her to chase you! They like chasing and being chased - one encourages her to go away from you, one makes her want to come back! ;)
