    bring on the tears.

    Dont deserve to be there.

The portuguese skittles...i mean strikers dont have a clue.

Saha is coming on, yay :)

If France have to win, I hope Saha gets a goal

Carvalho out of the next match, so no matter what, Portugal won't win without him

Saha is out of the final!!!! That's just so bad from him, stupid tackle. No reason left to cheer for France, come on Italy :)

    Poor Saha :(

    Tackle looked ok :/

In fairness, it was a two footed tackle.

Probably a good thing Saha won't be playing then :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Indeed, Saha deserved to be booked.

I don't think either of these sides deserve to be in the final ahead of Germany.
France don't have much up front, and are fundamentally a defensive side. A moment of magic to win a penalty was requried, compared to the match against Brazil which was also from a set piece.

Portugal quite clearly are begging, begging, begging, for a striker. World class midfield and a top class defense, but up front, nada.

Big Phil did the best he could.

    Italy vs. France?
    Italy will destroy them imo.

I think it's only fitting that Zidane's last match is a World Cup final.

Everybody should boo Henry in the final for diving. Not very sporting now is it? ;)

Poor game. Neither team that great but Portugal had nothing up front and I have France in the sweep at work. €140 at least :)

A moment of falling over you mean.Am fairly dissapointed that the 2 finalists had matches decided or majorly influenced by diving. Cant fault Italy for the semi though. Great game. Dont agree that the italian elbow thrower can play though. Pity the draw couldnt have kept the Germany - Italy game till the final.

Some shocking play and shocking diving, while I dislike the Italians I have contempt for Portugal and that gimp Ronaldo. How no-one picked up a card beats me.

When will they start to play strikers?

As for the French, pah! Dreadfull attitude, they were just glad to reach the final. Italy will not be loosing to much sleep and I may even support them.

    Mike.

Scotland are in the same Euro 2008 qualifying group as the 2 WC finalists.

I think you'll get it very hard to find a team that hasn't influenced a game in this world cup unfortunately Stekelly.

Im so disappointed right now. France were awful and were there for the taking but Portugal just couldnt break them down. Reminds me of the Euro 2004 final where Portugal controlled most of the game and had all the possesion but just didnt do anything with it.

Shocking display from France and I hope the Italians go and beat them now.

Fair play to Portugal, they gave me a good run for my money and did better than many thought they would.

While most teams have been playacting, both Italy and France have had very dodgy inceidents which directly affected the results. Never liked Henry's attitude before but he's really taken the biscuit now. It's the unfortunate side of the wc but while I dont condone looking for soft frees , The Ita & Fra dives coupled with the italian elbow really soured it for me. Dont like seeign cheating prospour.

The unfortunate thing about France playing Portugal in the semi was that one of them had to go through to the final.

The playoff for 3rd place between Germany and Portugal will be a better match TBH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

    i doubt that.

i think Henry will play good in the final. doubt he would fancy to major final losses in one season.

Beautiful, seeing Ronaldo cry at the end of the game made my (and everyone else in the pub's) day. Henry was kicked, it was a peno.

Italy will win by the looks of it, but you never know.

Why do you doubt that? I doubt that a final, between two teams who have only really shown what there capable of once or twice so far will be a good match. They also have the two strongest defenses, I doubt it will be a decent game tbh.

He was touched, and he went over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

no no he was kicked. but he did fall over. whether he lost his balance or fell doesnt matter. he was kicked which was a foul.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Disappointing play by the French compared to the last two matches. Lost the ball all the time unncessarily, but the defence was tidy enough except for some of the usual craic from Barthez :)

I expected a lot more from Rivery in particular. France were the physically stronger team though and perhaps they were just a bit smug and happy enough to roll into the final without putting in too much effort? They've done it before

The Portugese had most possession, were working better as a team and had great passing skills and seemed better motivated, but they never developed any real chances. You can't expect a 20 meter shot to go in every match

Agree. The Portugese diving was disgraceful, yet again. I actually prefer when a diver is just ignored by the referee, and not carded. In that way they make much more of a fool of themselves being ignored while implicitely being made look like a cry-baby

    Bring on the final! :D

Ouch, it must have been sore being kicked that hard!

Its a miracle henry stayed on the pitch, the guy is super human tbh.

On another note, did anyone see Barthez after Zidane scored the penalty?

    "Ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" :D

I think he made a meal out of it but he got hit about 100 times harder than ronaldo, and fell about 1/4 of the distance though ;)

That said, he was my man of the match ... just sort the diving out lad!!!!

    He isn't.

    Think about it.

The English are the ones who hate him. The French couldn't care less about him 'cheating' the english, if anything, they'd encourage it.

But it's a semi-final, and which semi are England fans most likely to have tickets for?

All it takes is about 500 English people for the amount of boo's we've heard.

humm seems 'the English' get blamed for everything arround these parts :)

How many of his former team-mates has Zidane said goodbye to in this World Cup? And there's still half the Juve squad to go in the final. It's all a bit Roy of the Rovers.

Did anybody see Makele and Thuram (I think?) go up to Zidane after he scored? They seemed to be reorganising their tactics or at least that's what it looked like. I knew Domenach was a water carrier but that takes the biscuit.

Awful match last night. I kinda got the feeling that the French felt that they had a gimme into the final and just weren't ársed to do anything more than get a result. And as for Portugal, terrible in the last third. As as for the diving!!!!

Funny though, in the BBC highlight show last night they had a a little VT on the Portuguese diving. They started to give about Scholari approaching the ref after the match cos he felt that Portugal should have been awarded several free kicks throughout match, which is BS cos most of them were dives. But the irony was that Mark Bright said that Scholari was just looking for a scapegoat, which is extremely rich coming from an English commentator!!

I suppose it's just the partisan nature of football. You only have the look at the amount of Utd. supporters calling Henry a cheat and likewise for Arsenal supporters with regards to Ronaldo.

Suppose he'll have a nice collection of jersey's for his trophy room!
