Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anyone stop me from going mad and tell me how to fix this gear issue? I've been trying to get the gears to work properly without knocking the chain off or too far past the cog..

I've been adjusting the two little screws for the past 2 hours and I cant get it right!

Been there, done that, but it took me four hours. :( Keep going.:)

Unfortunate to pick such a hot day. Maybe leave it today, do a bit of reading, and come back to it.

A few things I remember: loosening the cable; unscrewing the bolts on the frame downtube to allow me turn the derailleur hanger around the downtube and move it up and down; then making sure the derailleur cage and the large sprocket were in a line; making sure the gap between the bottom of the derailleur cage and the top of the sprocket was small (thickness of a two cent coin); tightening the cable by holding it with a vice grips (careful you don't wreck the cable) and then tightening the bolt; using the threaded adjuster at the top of the downtube just behind the handlebars to remove any slack in the cable.

Very frustrating if you have not done it before. I suggest you screw the small adjusting screws (top; bottom) to about the same position (=equal amount out) and do all the above first.

Finally dumb luck helped me, and it was ok. And I was wrecked.

But I have to admit I didn't have a clue, and still don't. The above will probably horrify a bike mechanic.

I got thick with it and rang the local bike shop and they said they'll have a look at it for me tomorrow for free because its new.

RESULT!! Still.. I'll be printing off all the advice above so I can use it the next time. Thanks a lot!
