Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Rooney?
    Abidal?...

    not a chance

    Barthez hasn't been bad either.

Surely a World Cup Worst 11 should include players from Poland/S. Arabia/Iran ?

Yes, but Trilla specified worst as 'most disappointing'.

    My Best:

    Ricardo
    --Cannavaro---Carvalho----Heinze
    Lahm

    Deco---Rodriguez
    Kaka
    Riquelme--
    Ronaldo
    Klose

Subs : Buffon, Zambrotta, J.Cole, Odonkor, Torres, Pirlo, Delgado, Hargreaves, Villa

I don't have a worst 11. Who really takes note of the poor players. Players that spring to mind are Barthez, Lampard, Figo, Ronaldinho, Pauletta, Saha, Beckham, Ballack.

Ballack and Figo have both been pretty impressive imo.

    Lehmann

    Lahm
    Zambrotta
    Cannavaro
    Ayala

    Rodriguez
    Zidane
    Pirlo
    Deco

    Klose
    Torres

Carvalho, Meira, Thuram, Riquelme, Podolski, Buffon, Pirlo, Makelele, Gallas, Perotta, Kaka all going close.

I’m not going to bother naming a worst XI as it is just going to escalate into an England bashing exercise and there are plenty of threads for that already.

Dont know how anyone can disagree with this 11, exactly the team I would pick.

How can people pick Ronaldo and Messi, Messi barely played and Ronaldo was poor.

I thought Ballack was brilliant in the tournament, Figo was good in the opening stages but waned after that.

Messi may have barely played but look at his contribution. When he came on he was phemominal imo. Should have started against Germany.

As for Ballack, I think he was hot and cold. He didn't live up to hype that was built around him. I honestly thought Frings played better.

    Best:

    Reina

    Kromkamp Carragher Cannavaro Lahm

Left side of defence is a bit flakey but they'll do ok :p

I haven't checked, but I'll bet Inzaghi has the best goal/minute ratio!

Worst XI? Don't know haven't really got the energy or interest to think about it. Lampard, Barthez and Ronaldinho would definetly be in there anyway.

I notice that Carvalho was only picked in twice...I think he had an outstanding world cup, if Cannavaro and Osorio were not in the WC I'd gladly give him defender of the tournament. Ayala was good also, but Carvalho shades it for me

Just to explain why I put Ballack and Figo in the poor pile.

Ballack was hot and cold all tournament. Most notably he was cold in the "big" games, when Germany were up against it. He should have been the one imposing himself in the matches. For such a big name, quality player I thought he was poor, much like Gerrard and Lampard were poor for England.

Figo is lazy. Classic example of this was in the France game. He just stood out there on the wing waiting for the ball to come to him. He never worked for it. When he did get it, he tried the exact same "dummy and cross" trick every time and every time it was blocked. He didn't seem bothered at all to try something different or beat his marker.

In fairness, he was up against Gatusso and I'd be very suprised if Zidane was much better on Sunday.

I agree you with you there the best team in the world cup 2006. A lot of the strikers have being disappointing in this world cup. Klose is not really thought of highly in europe as one of the best, when you think of all the big clubs being linked to all top strikers, i dont every remember his name showing up, but always has a good tournement with germany, even the Euro's he scored goals.

    No he didn't

Check your facts "klose" did score in the Euros and world cup before that:p

Are you talking about Euro qualifiers? He didn't score at Euro 2004.

Once again, "no he didn't" and you are wrong. Check your own facts and then either go away or remain quiet.

Why Barthez? What would you guys expect him to do not to be dissapointing? Score a hattrick maybe? He received only 2 goals in 6 games afair... It's true that France has a brilliant defense with Sagnol, Thuram Gallas etc but still he wasnt THAT bad. What about Jevric of Serbia who received 6 goals in 1 game?
My best first XI will surely include Frank Ribery, maybe the only "non-star" from France first eleven but their best player at this tournament IMO.

Maybe you are right about Barthez, I think most of judged him on his previous scenarios outside the WC were he f**ked up...I gotta disagree with ya regarding Ribery, I think he had one good game and was fairly ordinary in others. you could say the same about Vieira (3 decent games) and Zidane (2 great games). But Frances' best players for me have been Thuram, Makelele and Zizu.
