    Dog Training Ireland Gundog Training Workshop

    2 day Gundog Training Workshop with Helen Philips

    12th & 13th August 2006

    Time 9.30am - 5pm each day

    DTI Canine Training Centre, Dunsoughly, St Margaret's, Co Dublin

    This 2 day workshop is presented by Helen Philips of Learning About Dogs in the UK. Author of 'Clicker Gundog', Helen has her own team of working Hungarian Vizslas, and is a professional gundog trainer. Throughout her work Helen uses the clicker to train her dogs, ensuring they work in the field effectively and reliably. She has been classed revolutionist because she would never punish her dogs. Dealing with distractions is a huge problem for both pet owners and those with working dogs. This course will focus on Stimulus Control and how to train your dog to focus and listen to you rather than his natural instincts of following that scent or chasing that bird!

    This 2 day workshop introduces a progressive way to train gundogs the exercises they need to perform in the field.

    The workshop will cover the following:
    * Stimulus Control - teaching your dog to ignore distractions and listen
    to YOU!
    * Teaching Basic field control exercises
    * Retrieving
    * Directional, Send back and Advanced work
    * Searching and Quartering

    A maximum of 16 handlers and dogs can attend. Spectators are welcome.

    Who Should Attend this?
    Owners that work in the field with their dogs.
    Petowners who own a gundog (Spaniels, Retrievers, Pointers)

    NOTE: There will be no shooting in this workshop

    Lisa,

    would this training suit a 2yr old brittney thats works for me only and trained by myself in a unconventional manner( various hand signals and the odd whistle to get her attention)???:D

    I would love to go Lisa but unfortunately work commitments mean that I am unable to attend, Plus I live in Munster. So :(
    Will these be a regular feature? I suppose it depends on uptake?

    Yes it very much depends on the uptake. Helen is a superb trainer, her vizslas are stunning and it is a pleasure to watch her work them. We have had people take the aer arann flights to our seminars, we are just at Dublin airport so it's easy peasy - maybe next time when work doesn't interfere ;)

    I have a 2yr old cocker, very distracted by birds. This sounds perfect.

    (Plus, I've heard good things about Dog Training Ireland.) :)
