    Here's a few:

I use Orange Juice as a base for most (if not all) of my smoothies.

    This is my favourite
OJ, Banana, Yoghurt and Peanut Butter - YUMMY

OJ and any form of berries (straw, rasp etc.)

    OJ, Pineapple, Passion Fruit.

I mean just get any fruit you can and lump it into the machine.

Sometimes crushed ice can be helpful.

    Enjoy

OJ and any form of berries (straw, rasp etc.)

Personally I find apple or grape juice best for "red berry" style smoothies and drinks. Less of a flavour clash.

I never drink apple juice as the smell reminds me of cider. And that's not something I want to be reminded of - ugh...

Haven't tried grape but I'll look out for it.

I also use alot of Cranberry juice - good for hangovers.

By the way, if you're taking a train from Connolly, or if you work around Talbot Street, there's a shop called Number 55 or something like that, on Talbot Street (down near Connolly, past the railway bridge on the right as you have your back to the Spire) that does delicious smoothies for €4 - huge big ones with mango, passion fruit, banana, orange juice and frozen yogurt, or pineapple, strawberry, OJ and frozen yogurt, or berries and apple juice and frozen yogurt.

Really nice, a fresh treat and they're lovely in the shop.

Most fruits are good except kiwi fruits.

I find they dont work as all the seeds get smashed and get peppery and bitter and unpleasant.
If you were to pass it through a chinois or other type of sieve first to keep the seeds back then it would probably be alright again, otherwise dont bother it can ruin a smoothy or a lassi (yoghurt smoothy).

Cheers for the ideas everyone. :)

A nice 'dessert' type smoothie I often make consists of one banana, 5 large strawberries blended with a pint of sweetened soya milk (although regular milk of some type of yogurt would probably work just as well).

Same with passion fruit but they're so tasty so it's worth the effort.

I had a nice Mango lassi the other day in Madinah the arab shop there on Moore St. so I'd have to recommend mango for a lassi as well.

I use the formula of half a litre of orange juice, two small pots of natural yoguart (or half a large pot) and then pick two fruits of any kind and put two of each in. Most of the combination have been with banana :) I've found recently that mango is quite nice. Mango, pineapple and strawberry milk works quite well :D

Best smoothie in the world is orange juice, banana, strawberry and frozen yoghurt
I have the jamie oliver cookbook and he reckons single cream and a pint of ice with a banana and 2-3 handfuls of any soft fruit... dunno bout the cream - I'd feel like i was supersizing myself

Last night I tried Mango, Kiwi, Orange Juice and Yoghurt - not the best combination but it was all I had in the house.

I find a few drops of flavouring will make a big difference, try something like vanilla essence, or throw in something like cinamon.

Go down to smithfield market some morning and buy a load of fruit, see what they have you'll save a fortune..

Is there somewhere you can get frozen yogurt? I do not mean the tasty fruity ones HB do. I mean for as a basic ingredient for smoothies.

Or is it easier to simply buy yogurt and freeze it? Is it best to use natural yogurt?

Banana and skimmed milk is lovely, as is strawberry and skimmed milk. Be careful if you're using pineapple or any of the more resilient fruits, I've broken 2 blenders in the past two months because of super strong ultra big pineapple pieces.

This my friends is the key. Frozen yogurt is the key ingredient in the smoothie. I can't find it though (Tesco) and the natural yogurt packaging says do not freeze. The key to the smoothie is to have it as cold as possible. Last week I cut up pineapple and strawberries and froze them. Made a big difference and the smoothie tasted lovely. If you can find yogurt you can freeze you could pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it for easy access when making a smoothie.

On another note I bought some frozen fruit of the forest berries in Tesco which made a delicious smoothie.

My favourite though is Supermac's Exotic - Pineapple, Mango, Melon and frozen yogurt. Yum yum.

My favourite smoothie source is the Number 55 shop in Parnell Street. The guy in there tells me that frozen yogurt needs really careful handling. If you put it in the freezer you'd need an icepick to get a chunk of it off; if you put it in the cooler it melts like a flash. You have to have a specialised temperature-controlled freezer to keep it in before serving.

He says it's kind of impossible for home makers, because most people don't have a separate freezer that can cool to the exact right temperature.

Natural Yoghurt, Banana, Mandarin Rasberry Juice (by Tropicana), Strawberries or Mixed Berries (Can pick up frozen boxes of either), Apple, Pear...

That's one if you want to fill your daily amount of fruit moreso as they will predominantly taste of the berries and/or banana....That could also be down to the amount of berries I put in :)

    🤪

My standard brekkie smoothie (a slight variation on those mentioned above):

    1 banana
3 heaped tablespoons (ish!) Glenisk low fat natural organic yogurt
1 fistful of frozen summer berries (you can get these in Superquinn) - acts as both flavour, colour and crushed ice (oh, and lots of vitamins, yada, yada, yada)
    Big squeeze of honey
Cover the lot in low fat milk.
Zap with the blender (I use a little hand-held blender)
    Enjoy.

Am looking forward to trying some of the other recipes suggested too.
