    Hey guys

Just saw a 05 Subaru Legacy today and I have to say it is one wicked looking car.Nothing like the Impreza which doesnt really do it for me.I was looking into a Jag instead of the CLK,but now Iv seen the Legacy might head down to Carroll & Roche and have a look....

Anybody has any feedback on the Legacy would be very much appreciated

Superb cars, not quite as fashionable as German machines, but you'll have a smug sense from knowing that you're driving an excellent car!

I didnt catch any details of the car just the Legacy badge and the twin exausts....which look as good on the Legacy as the Audi A4.

Not really into my German machines anymore....it seems just run of the mill now to own a Merc,BMW or Audi. That was part of the reason for looking at Jag.

Just read CBG review for the Legacy and reckons they can "stand toe to toe with thier German counterparts"

    I think it's a great anti-badge car!

    And I think I need a Spec B

Absolutely! Very capable car indeed and you wouldn't know from looking at it. Are you going for the saloon, station or outback, kaiser?

The one to go for is the B4 RSK, 280bhp, 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 157. I had a Leone 1.8 turbo estate back in the 90's long before they were famous for rallying. The car even had electric height adjustable suspension for off-roading. For a 1986 car the spec. was better than most cars of today never mind 1986.

I only saw iton the M50 today and it was a saloon. I dont think I could go from a Merc CLK 230 to an Estate in one go.Only 1 kid on the way. Glad I saw it before I bought a Jag....otherwise Id be sick!!

Is there any other Subraru dealers in Dublin other than C & R??

Legacy: Very understated, underrated, capable car and totally overshadowed by the Impreza these days, not too many of them on the road either. The B4 RSK models are Jap imports afaik.

The current model is around since 2004:

Love the Legacy, a very handsome, purposeful car. Anyone remember Colin McRae in a Legacy pre-Impreza?

The tax laws which mitigate against large petrol engines make Subarus a rarity over here (apart from boy-racer Imprezas - most Jap imports I'd say).

Also, fuel consumption is pretty poor I've heard? But get this - Subaru are developing a flat-four diesel engine. They are insisting on flat four to retain c of grav. advantages their cars have become famous for...

A boxer diesel. Never heard of that before. Any other manufacturer ever did that?

Anyway, it's not due until 2008. Subaru aims high by trying to match the BMW 2 liter diesel for performance

    kaiser1,

I had one of these cars until recently, absolutely great car and stood out from the crowd! Unfortunately somebody crashed into me and wrote it off (only had it 6 weeks! )

Would definitely recommend them, superb to drive, also pay the extra for an auto/tiptronic box, the re-sell on these is significantly higher. Fuel consumption can be poor if you are heavy footed...

Have you considered importing from Japan? A 2005 model with less than 10k kms can be brought in for €20k with all taxes paid and spec is a lot higher.

Hey Bf quick question on fuel economy, How heavy is this thing on juice. Been looking at them on the net second hand, a B4 RSK 1999 2000 model spec wise they look good. Would it be worth a look or not.

    Mugenextreme,

I had the 2 ltr non-turbo version of the current model. I averaged high 20s mpg most of the time but this fell to nearly 20mpg when the car's abilities were used to the full!

Turbos would be heavier again on the juice, I have heard stories of sub 20mpg for those who have been heavy footed!

If you are willing to take the risk/time the b4 rsk will be much cheaper if you import yourself or use a broker. The garages here importing them seem to charge way over the odds!

I am currently thinking of importing to replace my car, this guy in wicklow is a mine of information, even though ive havent bought off him he is extremely helpful with info on jap imports (www.japnuts.com)

Alternatively try www.japanusedcar.net for a good site showing auction stock in japan

be very careful with a jap import completly different to euro spec and designed to run on 100 ron . The turbo model of the current legacy was not brought officially to europe and if you do go for one make sure to have a spare couple of grand for that obligitory engine change after 6 months .

Jap spec will run quite happily on 98 RON, but oil does have to be changed on the turbo every 5,000kms without fail. Servicing intervals are only 10k kms, so maintenance wouldnt be the cheapest, but well worth it!

I have a 2001 2.5ltr rx Legacy and I tell you I have driven a hell of a lot of cars but I wouldn't swap this one for anything. It's an automatic with Heated Leather seats, cruise control and AWD. The handling and power is just amazing, and its very reliable.

One downside is fuel consumption I get about 26mpg, but I still wouldn't swap it for anything.
