Yep, red my policy and it says nothing about the other car needing to be insured.

Yeah I checked that once when I was driving a car home for someone who had just bought it, car was off the road previously so had no current insurance. Insurance company (can't remember which one) told me it didn't matter as my insurance would cover it once I was driving.

i know your not coverd to drive other peoples car on tpft.

   ??????????????

    My insurance cover is TPFT.
I was told straight out by the insurance company that yes, I was insured to drive other peoples cars, provided those cars were insured.

This whole scheme does work as my brother does it the whole time (was driving an EVO VII on escort insurance), he has been called in to the garda station twice to show his insurance policy, he showed his policy and then off he went. My dad was the owner of the EVO so there was no problem

On the phone to Quinn direct he wanted to transfer his insurance to another car for the day, my brother's BMW. They asked him why bother as his policy allowed him to drive the car as long as it was taxed and NCT'd.

    Look it's simple really.

If you set out to drive and lie to an insurer on the way, you can be sure they will try to wriggle out of any subsequent 3rd party claim. The question "are you the main driver" must have been incorrectly answered.

The road tax issue is still not solved either.

Driving a valuable car on 3rd party insurance is madness btw.

I insured my car with AXA recently and asked about driving other cars.
I was told. The other can't be my name or spouse/partners name, (you have to be named on their policy). The car has to be Irish reg, taxed and NCT'd. It doesn't need to be insured as your policy is transferring onto it, but third party cover only. How about buying a cinq and insure it and then buy a 20 year+ old merc and insure for about 2-300 euros on a classic policy?

OK, got bored reading "it has to be insured by someone else" vs "it doesn't have to be insured by someone else"

Right - Quinn direct + Full licence + tpft on whatever car = insured third party to drive any car not in your name
The current policies make no mention of the need for it to be insured by anyone else.

And you can be sure there's fellas insured on micras driving skylines registered to their grannies.

However - I think insurance companies will smell a rat in situations like this if there is a need for a payout and there's no saying they won't chase you for money if you were obviously pulling a stroke.
