My view on it is if you are not happy with how it is run, then dont go, judging by the fact that both entrant and spectator numbers at the show rise every year I dont envisage their being a problem.

your certainly doing your bit to reverse that :D

mr pillow talk , you are a disgrace....almost all the comments have been that the show was excellent, and the concensus is that we will ALL support it again next year AS WE HAVE FOR MANY YEARS PAST and the only criticism of any substance was the rudeness of one official who should be severely censured or at the very least apologised for..what do we get...? take it or leave it!!!

..I dont suppose by any chance YOU are that official?

As I allreaady said rudeness is unacceptable, no one has yet offered a name for the individual so how on earth can he be censured? I responded to an accusation that organisers were raping the public, and I am a disgrace?

    Please grow up.

I wouldnt go and work to help set it up every year if I didnt want to be a success.

I havent been rude to anyone in this thread yet some replies to me were quite rude. With that flame away, I simply offered a defending voice to a nasty allegation.

Ok, from what I gather you are some type of organiser/worker for the show, correct?

well Mr PT if you are part of the organising machine will you please undertake to convey our concerns to the committee or whoever rather than just tell us not to come next year.Maybe they will be able to find a name for this indivdual....

Im sorry if I appeared rude to you...well I was rude to you and I withdraw the "disgrace" remark....

Mr PillowTalk it would be helpful if you could clarify your role in the show, the people on this forum are exactly the folk you should be building bridges with so things go better next year.

Okay lets simplify things so we can all move forward...............

    1. I think we all agree it is an excellent show
    2. Generally it is well organised and set up
    3. We like to help various charities and show off our cars and/or view others

We would like to see the rules clarified BEFORE the Show, preferbaly with entry & exit times on the Entry Form !

    Correct ?

Now.......................here comes the crunch, if it stated you MUST stay 'till after 5pm................would you all go ??

I stand over my comments - critical aspects included.

I certainly won't be cowed by the 'like it or lump it' brigade. If the organisers are actually interested in bettering the show (and it certainly can be bettered in the areas mentioned), then they should welcome criticism. Emotive language like 'raped' aside, the negatives are real enough.

I mentioned my father (long term classic owner, and regular exhibitor at shows here and the UK) won't attend the show because of certain attitudes within the jag club. I think this is the sort of thing that made him choose to 'lump it'. No winners there.

Wow!!! some thread. Ive sat back the last few days and watched this develop! I have something to ad if i may.....

1st off i reckon the show should have been open earlier to the public as it was World Cup Final day...

2ndly as it transpires there was no obligation to stay till a particular time so the Jag club should not have a problem with us leaving early.. (their own fault)

3rdly does it state anywhere that other clubs may not give out trophies to their own club members.. As our Chairman of the American Automobile Association of Ireland got a right telling off for giving our members trophies for the effort some had made over the yr and effort put into these cars....

And to add to that we had, i would say close to 70 American cars there which in my mind is a real crowd puller also.....

I do think its a good show but only due to the amount of cars and the general public...not due to the facilities put in place for the day..such as food stands drinks etc...... Think the sandwiches were gone by 1 or so.. And yes like many other shows we should get some sort of coffee and sambos for the effort we put into the cars and obviously speaking from a big block driver perspective the amount of money spent on petrol that day ! LOL
Just a couple of my own thoughts....

    Constructive criticism is fine.

    Hmm, like you said:
anyone who has a problem with how the show is run do everyone a favour and dont come back

    Now that's engagement with criticism!

Aaah, I think I wound him up a bit. I have edited my remarks he found upsetting from my post 35, and apologised for them. Mostly I would accept my tone was inappropriate, though not I feel my opinion. Having said that, I am an outsider looking in, perhaps through opaque glass :)

Hi all.. new to this and to classic cars. Terenure is the first Classic Car Show I have attended with my new/old car and I have to say I was impressed with the turn out and pleased that my car got such a great reception. And also how welcome I was made feel in the club I joined also.

    However…..

I was disappointed at the overall reception I received.

€15 entry… guys, people are coming to see the cars, charge “us” less! Or “at least” give us a free program when we pay in.

Refreshments should be “given” out to those if such a high fee is to stay in place.
What does it actually cost to make a sandwich and a coffee/tea anyway?

The Jerk in the green jacket should be sought out and never be allowed to attend/help again. It is a charity event. Tossers like this should not be dealing with the general public as it does leave a bad taste in ones mouth for future events. If he opened his mouth to me I wudda.. well this is a public forum.. I guess I shouldn’t say. But remember.. its Sod’s Law that there is always “one” jerk at large gatherings such as this who’ll getting more comments then he’s worth, so don’t let it put you off..

Jag Club.. lighten up will ya!!!! Guess you guys were drinking way too much of the “free” coffee you guys were getting. I was at the award ceremony at the American Classics. Whose thunder were the AAAI stealing??? You guys (Jag Club) are just too damn stuffy if you ask me!! Or is it jealousy because the American Classics get more attention then you!!! I’d join the AAAI before I’d join you lot!!

And finally… who was responsible for the sanitary facilities.. you people need to put more effort into you area of expertise.. That’s all I’ll say about that.

But all that said, I applaud all those involved. It’s a heck of a day to pull off. I enjoyed my first show immensely.. and with a few minor adjustments to the running of things, I’m sure I’ll be back next year.. as many of you will be too..

    No.
I arrived just before 1 and left just before 4, because I had other commitments. I didn't arrive late to minimise my time on the pitch - I had work that morning. i didn't leave early to beat the rush, I left because I had to mind my son. If I had my choice, I'd have been there from 10:00am until 10:00pm, but lets face it - 80% of classic owners are older than 25 and therefore don't tend to have entire Sundays free.

If that means I'm not welcome as an exhibitor, then I'll leave the DS in the car park and arrive as a spectator only. But I will say that I had 4 separate groups of people sit in and talk about my car. I spent about 30 minutes with one couple showing them the many differences between a DS and other cars. This wouldn't have happened if it was in the carpark, and therefore I think there should be a place for those who cannot commit the whole day to exhibit their cars.

The show is excellent. But primarily because of the effort spent by owners on their cars, not the organisation. The organisation was good, but the feedback here shows that small effort here or there can make it excellent.

I probably would stay til 5 rather than not go HOWEVER i would be VERY unhappy about attending ANY show with such draconian rules ESPECIALLY when I have paid to get in.....

    Top points for me.
..most shows I go to give free grub to entrants and dont charge to get in...they get my loyalty the next year....i dont care if it is for charity, we ARE the show.

whats this nonsense about the american club trophys? FFS, i dont believe it!

    toilet provision was good...

food provision was not...i didnt buy any, but my pals got half a box of chips and a small small burger for €4 AND THREW THEM AWAY!

Lets emphasis it, this show is one of the highlights of my summer, it is in my top 3 easily.....

DS Does it have to be couples?:D
I would love to have you explain this to me but I am not sure the other half would be too pushed.

Anyway, you make a great point, its us that make the show worth while, turning up and taking time to make it worth the publics while attending, we should therefore be treated with gratitude and respect.

I think the organisers need to be seen to appologise and repremand the offender.
Great show btw, I did see some cars I recongnised from here, but no owners about.

I thought it was a great show and was just dazzled by all the great classics there. Thankfully there were not that many tractors there either. I agree about the lack of decent food options. I left to go into Terenure village to get something decent to eat.
My main crib would be the lack of autojumble stands - I love these. Also the parade of cars was a little too slow and drawn out. A short few words on each car by the presenter would have been nicer rather than a 5 - 10 minute interview with the owner. That way we would have seen more cars and learned just as much about them.

Toilet facilities I thought were quite good for such a large show.

All those involved in organising this event should be congratulated on a great job.;)

If it had of been stated on the form that I had to stay untill 5 I probably would not have gone, I had to work, as it turned out I did stay, some family came with a picnic and it didn't seem right leaving them there. As I said previously I enjoyed the show, or what I saw of it and tbh honest I really didn't expect any better food wise etc, they seem to be the same at all events, overpriced and under stocked,I don't think the organisers are reponsible for that. I assume a vender pays a fee for the patch, the organisers can't be expected to have a say in what the vendor charges.I'm wondering if the commenter who says if you dont like dont go represents the organisers, I think not, which is probably why he beat a hasty retreat.

Heres my 2 cents.. Firstly I think its a great show and wouldn't miss it for the world. I pre-entered so it only cost me a tenner, but charging exhibitors who enter on the day more than spectators is a rip-off , exhibitors make a show.Toilet facilities were ok at least there was more than one.Catering was very lacking. More food stalls needed for more variety and competition. I brought my own food but if organisers want exhibitors to enter before 11 and stay till 5 then a free cup of tea and a couple of sandwiches in the morning wouldn't go astray, dare I say it but the further away a show is from Dublin the better exhibitors are treated. I thought the autojumble/stalls should have been set up where the Jags/American cars were for public safety. I saw cars driving thru the autojumble area where there were large numbers of pedestrians.I know its a thankless job but more stewards were needed on the field while cars were being driven about, say upto 12.00 and lets face facts, from 3.00 on people start to drift away, and on Sunday I saw numerous cars taking different routes out of the field, there should be more stewards to direct cars out safely.

I didn't go, and based on a lot of what I've read here I'm delighted with my decision.

I've been to lots of car shows in ireland and in the U.K. and I've never heard of a "can't leave before 5pm" rule.

People should be able to come and go as they please. Some have long journeys to make home again.

€15 is well ott too. Charitable or not.

I'd love to have met Mr. Green Jacket, complete with his attitude. That would have been fun :D

we were filming our exit and would you believe it, one section stops just before mr Jobsworth and the next starts just after...I suspect my lad was being polite stopping filming when the guy was coming over to talk to us.....pity wasnt it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Somemgood points here................I think the €15 fee is there to encourage people to pre-register for €10 and that way they have some idea of the numbers attending.

When too many show up on the day their plans for where to put people can get messy. Maybe they have an insurance issue with cars and pedestrians, this happens at a number of UK events where you are simply NOT INSURED if you actually drive between certain hours. Your car insurance may not cover you because you are at a "car event" and the organisers Public liability may have some clause in it relating to vehicles being stationary !

    Just my thoughts out loud..............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

I think €10 is a very acceptable pre-registered fee, considering it gets two people in. You can enjoy the show as a visitor aswell.
But charging the exhibitors helps the organisers cover their costs quicker, and keeps the costs for regular visitors down aswell, thus encouraging more people to attend.

Also, I agree that the cars should remain until a certain time, and this should be clearly stated on the registration forms. As a visitor, If I paid to get in with my family and discvoered half the cars are gone, well it wouldn't be much value for money, would it?

It is a huge logistical operation, and I don't think alot of you appreciate the hard work and effort required to put it together, the organisers should be applauded for their efforts.

Don't let one power tripping rude marshal ruin it for everyone.

    ..............well said !

I organised only 37 cars with lots of help on the day, and that was a nightmare. I can just imagine 1200 or so plus all the other issues !!

Was my third year attending the show with the car on display and the first year we had a stand at it. Was a little dissapointed by the organisation as no members of staff knew where our stand was, when we eventually found it, the Irish Morris Minor Ass. were setting up on it. All credit to the IMMA, we both agree'd to share the alotted space between us and for that I'm very thankful to them for what they could quiet easily classify as a 'boyracer'. It was also fortunate because two cars for our stand never showed up :(

We arrived at 11 and left at around 5 or so, was a very enjoyable day, will be looking forward to next years show !
