Dont really play online anywhere else myself. Have used http://www.playchess.com using the free client available at that site once or twice.
If you buy Fritz or Shredder or one of those you get a free years subscription to be able to play online - it's a very nce interface as well.

Ok some argue that ICC has stronger players, very true, but FICS is free and has some very strong players also, best accessed with Cclient or BabaChess or whatever your own personal favourite is, check here to see what appeals to you, I use Cclient.

I've been on GameKnot for a very long time now, great site, its free to play on, there's tournaments, leagues, teams, groups etc. and its got a nice webby too.

www.chess.com That's really the only site you'll need. A good forum, good games, and good craic. They also have good resources in improving.

Been on gameknot for a long time myself, but hadn't used it for ages.

Started using it today again. My rating dropped to 994 due to timed out games.

Got 10 games on the go now to get that rating built up again.

My username is onthebeer if anyone wants to challenge me. You will need to wait for 3 days though as I'm only allowed to start 10 games in 3 days. I can play many more, but that's just a limit to the games started.

Think I might start using gameknot though, although it seems kinda weak in the real time department. I couuld only find ten minute real time, but no unlimited time- real time.

The zone has this under standard unrated games, it also has 30 minute games, 10 minute games, and 5 minute blitz games
