Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Boards.ie short film competition kicks off this weekend.

    details can be found here:http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054951953

Post in this thread if you wish to take part in the competition.

    How to Enter:

Leave a post below stating your entry into the competition. On Friday evening you will recieve a PM from me with a single word title contained in the message.

Your goal is to produce a short 0-3 minute film incoperating in some form this single word title, it may be how the word makes you feel, or a narrative based around its use.

The only restrictions on your piece would be that its not blatant pornography, and if strong violence or nudity are involved there is a warning with the link.

By the time 8pm on Monday evening all entries should have a link directed to them on this thread, or in a PM to me.

Where A poll will be made so the users of boards can vote on the winning video.

The Prize will be something me and monkeyfudge will try and put together (read: we dont know yet).

I can host it on my webspace if you have problems.

I have mine planned, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet... hopefully I'll have the time tomorrow.

I have mine ready, well as ready as I can get it this weekend.
Firstly, I want to make some excuses :D ! I uploaded my video onto YouTube yesterday to find that YouTube f**king ruins a video (makes it darker, worse qaulity). So when it made the video real dark you couldnt see a thing (set in night time anyway). I went back and tried to salvage it by making it brighter. So now half of it is quite pale and white- looking and the rest of the time you cant make out whats going on. I only very loosely stuck to my topic as well :o .
Bare in mind whem you watch this that Im 15 and I have little equipment. The video is poor but I LOVED making it and I learned my lesson about shooting in the dark. OK- enough excuses, the good thing was we all had the same amount of time and we all had only a one-word title to use so all is fair I suppose!

Now Ill let you watch it :D !

Looking forward to the next comp, when hopefully things will go better!
So is anyone else going to post a link?

    oops

forgot i was doing this today.

    Coolcon...

At first i was very disapointed with your film, cause i hate how overused that requiem for a dream song is when it comes to short videos online...But i looked past my own hatred.

And must admit I found that to be a very enjoyable film.

also i am glad you didnt mention the title in the film, cause i want to see how many people can guess it from your footage?

It was easy to do, used final cut, imported a space texture and a comet from Livetype, the earth, sattelite and rock are static images, added a lens flare and then keyframed the objects and rotated the image... bit lengthy keyframing though..

It looks great. The rock might have been taking things too far though, it would look better without it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

Yeah, the light is wrong on the rock, instead of spinning it, i should have kept the light side towards the lens flare, and maybe as it drifted away, reduce it in size.... should have used Shake for the boulder

I really need to spend more time messing around with those programmes.

I installed Motion on the G5 in the office here last week, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

That bring me to a Motion Related Comment, is Apples Motion a separate program then final Cut, because I have installed it and doesn't work, only thing i see is on the viewer in Final Cut that says motion at the top of the viewers is the tab that reads motion.... just always weirded me out,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Well mine came as part of the Final Cut Studio pack

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Cut_Studio

(That's a lovely box by the way, I found it very hard to bring myself to open it.)

Motion is very picky about what graphics cards it will run on. It wouldn't run on any of our G4s, so I only got install it recently on a G5 I picked up cheap here on boards.ie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

well...that was interesting, pity i never got to see monkeyfudges approach to my horrible inappropiate title.

    BUT!

next time around i should be able to be a contestant, I shall hopefully in 2 weeks have my own sony PD150.

problem is I dont have a house at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill
