Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

well this comp was a major flop :( . Pity though because it was a great idea.

Well we can try again..maybe today or tomorrow... maybe give it a few extra days, sometimes the weekendds can be very hectic. WOuld u be up for that coolcon. Even a week deadline...or something. from today until next friday...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 318 ✭✭coolcon

We'd have to make sure that there were a few people definatley willing to try this time round. If some more people would take part Id be happy to go again. Are you thinking retrying / continueing our current topics or starting fresh with new ones?

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

Start a fresh with a new one... even if a title isn't given, a picture could be posted and the entrants have to incorporate the picture into their short... It takes time to get people interested in things... so, take no notice if people aren't entering, the only thing is to be creative... at least u shot a short film last weekend.. its valuable experience, taking every opportunity that comes

It is indeed. Its actually the very first time I used Adobe Premier Elements (the watered-down and cheaper version of Premier :D ) which I got at Christmas because before then I was just doing simpler things with windows movie maker! Great experience and great fun!

we could try picking a genre too, such as horror or thriller maybe... say one picture for three genre's... I'm up for it. so. if the powers that be... come on..

    ughh???

    You dont need our approval.

Hopefully with both my PC cleaned up (porn porn porn and more porn)

    and a new camcorder

plus the (hopefully) freedom and time to start shooting my own stuff.

I'll be able to enter a few of these competitions.

the only problem at the moment is i dont have a broadband connection in my new room, so i gotta deal with that first.

An idea I threw out on the other thread was maybe we could try constructing a 3-5 minute piece together. One poster puts up a script, or an idea, a second who has access to the necessary resources shoots it, and a third (or maybe the first) edits it. And anyone with whatever needed skill can fill in whatever piece.

it be funny, getting an american user to shoot coverage footage of new york or something, and then trying to fake an american apartment in dublin (did this myself for one film, had left over 16mm footage of new york, so mixed it with digital footage i had shot of a friend messing around in his apartment.)

Its a good idea about one combined effort, but, the majority would probably like to take part in the shoot, thats the problem. It all depends on where everyone is from, i'm 30 miles west of Cork City in a place called Clonakilty(yeah yeah.. the blackpudding).

It would definitely be cool to do, if someone submits an outline.. treatment, script.... someone could then do the shooting script, someone could do the storyboards.. someone could act as a producer... try to find some cash... so for those who wanted to take part maybe could.., the prep could all be done online... but for the shoot, the majority of us would probably like to take part....

The short I'm doing I have to Finish by tuesday... Must rent a Bear in the big Blue House Costume.... for an actor, got banned from the film forum bout two weeks ago... and one of the guys that left a comment, uses the image of Bear in the big blue house... Shot a biographical short on it.. a guy getting banned for posting a question.... a guy then leaves a comment.. the guy blames him and then goes to kill him.. some black humour when the guy calls to the house... the guy from the forum answers his door in a bear in the big blue house costume... holding a bottle of beer. (maybe some ladies underwear on over the costume and a cigar in his mouth)
Doubt i'll post a link here because i'd probably get banned from here too as it is one of the same moderators.....

That sounds like a good idea, but Im no expert in any specific field so I might not fit into that one. Just wondering, how would the raw video get to the editor?

Could courier it or something on the Mini DV tapes, couldn't upload it through a gmail account because for 1 gig you only get 4 minutes of footage.... so it would definitely have to be a courier

That short youre shooting Trendkill sounds very funny. I dont know the incident youre talking about though.

i'll try to find the page, they deleted it i think, i'll have to log out and enter the film forum to get access to it.. they block your IP so you can't creat another account... i'll try to find it..

    wtf?

Its like quentin tarintino and terry gilliam had an offspring and he grew up to be the man we know as trendkill...

If you pm me which mod it is, i'll see if you can put up a link or not, alot of mods wouldnt have a problem with it.

As far as i can see it is a more constructive response then alot of the other crap that is spewed out on feedback.

They definitely deleted it, the thread was titled "Monsters, the TV series" saved the web page on hard drive though for the short, i'll upload what i've done so far and private message the link to you... probably take a while though, fair enough i did do something wrong cwhich i found out after i was banned immediately, which i didn't know a the time... but hell man, might as well have a laugh about it.

Coolcon, i pm'd you the link, you'll see why i got banned.... and why the bear annoyed me. The compression is not the best, half is only shot and its nowhere near finished editing, must add filters etc etc....blah blah blah

Im going off on my hols next saturday so if we're having another comp, like Trendkill mentioned, Id like to do it this week. Otherwise I can shoot on location in the Costa Blanca :D . Ill only be gone for a fortnight. So who's interested in another comp - could you dish out some more titles maybe Blitzkrieg?

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

Cool, the majority of my free time is going to evaporate after this week, so another comp would be cool..... Costa Blanca..... sweet.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

So will we try again, you up for it coolcon, your going to the COst Blanca for 2 weeks so the deadline would have to be when you get back, tht is unless you have an edit suite on a laptop. the deadline isn't relevant, as long as we're being creative.... so shall we.

Sounds good to me. I think I will be bringing the laptop so editing will be no problem - I just hope I can get wireless broadband where Im staying (to upload it). So Im up for it either way.

    Hey man,
so will we try one tomorrow, just one question... is everybody hanging out at that filmmakersnetwork.ie now or what..... should we put a post up there, explaining the rules and see if anyone there would like to enter........

I found out that theres no wireless net in the hotel so I wont be able to upload it until I come back (which is a fortnight from saturday).

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭trendkill

Fair enough... well, we could try one, or give it two weeks to try and find some more interest. Wanna post a thread on filmmakers network .ie bout it or something.... might get alot of interest there....., anyone else any opinions
