Thinking of upgrading my '98 Escort to an '04/'05 Fabia vRS. Basically just want people's feedback.
There only seems to be 2 for sale in Ireland in autotrader here
The VRT is EUR3,700 on the '05 model and around EUR3,000 on the '04 one. I'm also considering a Seat Ibiza 1.9TDI FR(130bhp), however I prefer the look of the Fabia. I'm basically sick of pumping petrol into my car which is averaging about 30mpg when I read from reviews that the 1.9 diesel will top 60mpg on the open road. I'm just wondering is this figure achievable or not? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Fletch,

I can't imagine there are too many owners here, you should have more luck over on http://www.briskoda.net/

Does anyone know will Skoda Ireland honour the warranty on a car from the North?

consider the 1.8T petrol? Much more rev happy and should get similar to 30mpg, how are you only getting that out of the escort? I average at least 33-35 mpg at the moment and thats heavy enough driving.

Na diesel is the way forward, gona get it chipped to 160bhp so she should be quick enough.
The Escort is soo underpowered so the engine is probably having to work hard to get up to speed. Official figures say it has 73bhp but that was 8years ago, I'd say I'm lucky to be getting any where close to that figure at this stage. I average 32.5mpg on my trip to work, 50% M50 50% start/stop traffic, best I've seen was 38mpg on a 100mile trip doing a consistent 50mph. I'm sure it will just be a matter of adjusting to the diesel engine, changing up earlier to stay in the (narrow) power band.

AFAIK they have to - it's an EU warranty.
