I have just seen an ad on the television from the Road Safety Authority. It starts with a man saying “9 out of 10 road deaths involve driver error. That’s why there are now 31 extra driving offences resulting in penalty points…”

When it says “failure to obey traffic lights”, it shows a Garda car turning right onto a main road. I have two problems with this.

1) The Garda car is turning right, but the driver does not use an indicator.
2) The Garda car drives straight through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop.
