My house was broken into last night and my brother interrupted the burglar and got into an altercation with him. Both were cut and bled. The brother managed to hold him down until the gardai arrived, but they came back a few hours later to inform him that the burglar is HIV positive. How serious a threat is this to my…

This is rather tricky and i woudl suggest that your brother goes to see his dr as soon as possible.
There is a window of possible infection but are are drugs that can help fend it off.
He will have have tests and it could take 6 months before he is totally in the clear.
Seriously Dr first thing tomorrow.
