I'm doing a bit of research for college/work.

Looking to provide a modern fast IRAF solution for a physics & astronomy course.
As far as I know, they're currently working off individual workstations.
I'm looking at a way to centralise it on a server/cluster system, and use the workstations to display the plots.

Unfortunately, after browsing through the IRAF forums for a bit, they seem to concentrate on workstations and laptops. Are multi-user server implementations common?

Finally: what class of hardware is used? a dual P3-500, small cluster or BigIron?
