Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fedora Core 3 GRUB Menu

Right, I did a yum update on a core 3 machine that we run and having had no probs with the update on other machines I commented out the old kernel from the GRUB boot menu.

Question: How can I access the filesystem so that I can edit the GRUB menu again? The machine is not booting fully, not letting me use runlevel 3 even.

    TIA

Anything I'm leaving out then ask.

    Its using LogicalVol's

Use something like Damn Small Linux to boot from CD, then mount it?

Will give that a go, not too hopeful though.

At the grub prompt, type 'e' I think to edit the command sequence. That's not permanent though. Once you've booted, you'll have to sudo nano it or whatever to save it. Look up the grub documentation if you don't know enough about the grub command line. It's very good.

boot off the FC cd, type linux rescue

it'll boot up and ask you do you want to search for FC installs. Let it do this. Then cd into /mnt/sysimage/ and do chroot /mnt/sysimage/

Then you can edit the menu.lst file by hand and then do grub-install

That should do it for you.

Cheers Flamegrill, thought I was looking at a re-install there for a while.

Why do people have to make it so awkward by using the CD?

Learn to use grub's shell :)

on the negative side I can't remember if grub has auto completion so you may have to know the names of the kernel image and initrd your want too boot from.

It has autocompletion. No worries there

I was going to suggest using single mode, but it looks like you got it fixed :D
