That must've been a nice dream! I'm actually going to go to mass and say a prayer and hopefully they'll be answered!!

what help would that really do?

even if i believed in an intraventionist god, i wouldnt

perhaps before the exam itself, or before the paper is drawn up (pray for one suited for you)

but its all done and dusted now

Yeah I wore a miraculous medal all through my exams and it worked well!! Someone up there likes me I think!

i suppose you could pray the examiner was in a good mood or something? hhmmm

but nah, im past worrying. the exams didnt really phase me much, so it'd be a shame to start now..

    typical religious attitude here:

'i only pray when i need something, when i'm lonely or weak or afraid of something.'

religion is for the mentally weak who need comfort knowing there is life after death. notice how the majority of mass going people are old. why? because they're afraid of dying.

no modern day teenager would go to mass given the choice imo. if nobody in the family went to mass, you can guarantee the teenager wouldn't.

it's all about social acceptance and all that rubbish, a big dress-up occassion and a chance to put on fake smiles.

my gf goes to mass each weekend, her parents don't.

    She's a modern day teenager...

so i think you might need to revise that statement.

That's scary sounds exactely like something I'd say :D

It's not just because they're scared of dying though it's the way the were brought up though going to mass too

You don't have to be just afraid of dying most people are too scared to think logically and face up to the truth - no body knows

What's this thread about again? Oh yeah :D yeah I'm terrified right now :p

Not scared of dying, I'm just worried about my results!! I really hope they go well for me because I worked hard but some things are still touch and go.

reasons why you go to mass:

    1. to make yourself feel good for doing something 'holy'.
    2. to pray when you need/want something.
    3. to get into heaven when you die.
    4. to be socially accepted.
    5. you're forced to go.
    6. to show off a new car/jumper/suit/dress/shoes.
    7. you have time to kill.
    8. to be different

bottom line is, people think by going to mass, they'll be a better person. sort of like giving money to a beggar on the street.

reality is, they are giving in to social pressure and have been brainwashed by history/family or priests.

give me proof there is a heaven/god, i'll eat my words. however nobody can prove that  people are just scared to think when we die that's it and we don't come back.

so no, im not getting nervous about the leaving results :D

i'm not religious, in the slightest, haven't been to mass since they stopped giving me money *Confirmation*..

But different strokes for different folks..

you cant just sum up a belief system in 8 points, you might have gotten close (in my estimation anyway) but there are thousands of little things about belief that i wil never understand, and i don't think you will either..

Now, back on topic (probably not gonna stay on topic long), I'm no longer nervous about the results, i just want them.

i actually considered responding to this, point by point as "defined" above ^
    but well...

im not even gonna bother

Youre not religious, big deal, but.. dont diss whats important to other people smemon.
im not tryin to be a bitch here responding to you, as i may have done in teh past ( ), but just.. have the balls to respect other peoples choices, and realise that maybe youre own opinions arent the "right" ones for everyone else..

if you really think those reasons you mentioned above are why people are religious and go to services, you actually appear to have the same mentality and understanding of it as a retarded toad.

    "to be different" ???

i really thought you were smarter than that..

    anyway.

i cant wait to walk out of the school for the last time with results in hand... ooh it'll be great.

but i think we go back in september for a graduation tea or something

ah well, my moment will still be great.
i remember walking out after the last exam, damn it felt good.

 I totally agree with you Rockerette!

That's ridiculous! You can't say EVERYONE goes to Mass for those reasons. That's taking generalising a bit far in my opinion.
I am not religious and I have very little time for organised religion, but you have to accept that other people believe. For whatever reasons.

And anyway I'm nervous about the results but it has nothing to do with being religious or anything. It's not logical or rational to be nervous, but then most people don't sit back and think 'Oh I'll be nervous', you just feel it and can't help it. So it's not 'stupid' to feel nervous!!

Two nights ago I dreamt at first I got my course, then I woke up/fell asleep and I failed, and I woke up again and fell asleep and failed my LC again. Twice in one night..

And to make matters worse I was walking with a friend and he was about to tell me about this dream he had, I cut in and told him I dreamt of failing my LC. He said he dreamt of me failing my LC too... ARGH!

Just thought I'd let ye all know that I heard that the papers are all corrected now, and ready to wing their collective ways into yeer hands!

i disagree, those reason's should be deeply examined and challenged.

after all, people have been swayed into religion by priests/ parents/grandparents etc... why not sway them out of it?

fair enough, if people believe in blind faith- so be it. however how a dodgy 2000 year old story backed up by a single book just don't cut it for me.

i find it remarkable how easy people buy into things like this. it's exactly like get rich quick schemes or nigerian scams on ebay - you invest heavily and get nothing in return.

muslim/hindui/christians and all the rest all have very different views on religion. none can all be right, so why do people choose one over the other? location & family mostly. meaning religion is not about beliefs, it's about pride, location, and carrying on tradition.

it's funny how people always insist on backing things up with facts and evidence, yet when it comes to religion there isnt any  but they still believe...

Yeah the papers have been corrected since last weekend, just sorting out deliveries and printing the results on paper now. The marking scheme for the French listening was halved in the parts most people got wrong like Section 5 and apparently they didn't go too hard on the English exam so hopefully I should do ok. Really need over 400 and my Economics was chronic and my Geography was bad enough so I have good reason to be nervous!

My French grind is one of the higher up examiners for the English exam and has been doing it for years, she filled me in on all the sca! Most people seem to be doing fairly well as far as I know.

Yesterday I decided to look through my choices' points for last year. Kinda forgot how high the points were. Now I'm nervous. Still could be worse, there's a guy in my year who wants to do medicine. He put 3 choices on the CAO and the lowest was 530. Pressure ahoy.

I'll be away when the results come out. I'll be getting mine via the good ol' internet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

Of course it wouldn't be. They put all the exams from your centre in the same envelope, how could they spread them out?
