Has anyone done tests to see is a pair of 250 euro cards any better than a single 500 euro video card ?

I'm curious as to what to do for Battlefield2, and its impending sequel.

A friend said 'Get one 400 quid card, and buy a second in six months when it's down to 250' - that's assuming they still make the model. Don't you need *identical* cards for SLI ?

Generally speaking a single high end card is faster than two mid-range units in SLI mode. It is a complicated topic but if you can afford it go for the single higher end GPU it will serve you better in the long run.

There will still be plenty of the same type of GPU floating around out there should you decide to go SLI though after a year+ or more ebay would be the more likely source.

For SLI to function you need an nForce SLI motherboard and two GPU's of the same class but need not be from the same vendor to work.

e.g MSI 7900GT and eVGA 7900GT Overclocked Edition will work fine in SLI as long as the core GPU is the same.

As for the requirements of Battleflied 2142 it's running on an upgraded BF2 engine and doesnt look too great a leap from the current game so anything that currently runs BF2 well should run BF2142 well.
