    Hello,

Hoping someone can provide me with some direction...

I do some work for a company that has the following network infrastructure:

    Cat5e cabling
    2No. 8 core, 100mb fibre
    4No. Fibre/Lan Tranceivers
    Several 100mb layer 3 switches

New PC's and Servers now have GigE Nics.

Question 1: Would anyone know a company in Ireland that specialises in Fibre Optic Cabling?

Question 2: Would anyone know if an existing Cat5e backbone can be used with Gig10E? I know that Gigabit can...

Question 3: Has anyone experienced a complete network upgrade from 100mb fast etherent to Gige and if so what might your views/experiences be?

Appreciate any time afforded by anyone to this post.

    Regards,

    osmethod

Its an easy enough job, really.
Go to the companies and ask them.
They will contract an engineer or some technicians to you to do the job.
Theres no point looking for advice on an internet board about something serious enough like this.

Would you know any Reputable Irish Companies Fuzzylogic who specialise in this and are straight to the point?

    Thanks,

    osmethod

Yes, I work as an Engineer for one of them.
They are probably too big to take on any jobs worth <€10million.

I couldn't list you any smaller companies in Dublin who could do it though. Mabye Just get a couple of techies or independents?

It can but looks like the IEEE will specify only CAT6, CAT6a, and CAT7 in the upcoming 10GBASE-T standard. However, the vast number of existing CAT5e installations worldwide means huge market pressure to add a '10 gigabit over CAT5e' catagory.

In another context perhaps is it possible to have 2 Gig10E switches with a copper link between running Gigabit 10 Ethernet (perhaps even trunk multiple copper links) and run GigE from the other face of the switch to the clients?
