a big big change coming up it seems, with drenai (alliance) shamans and blood-elf (horde) paladins in the the burning crusade expansion pack.

seems strange (very) to do this so far into the game, and even stranger to remove the only specialised class for each side. still though, i'm not sure what to think...i like the idea of being a shaman, and be alliance.

lore wise, i can understand alliance shamans, but i'm not so sure about blood-elf pally's.

Horde shouldn't be pallys. It's just... wrong.
Shamans are kinda cool... but again, they seem more in tune with the nature of the Horde. I couldn't imagine playing an ally shaman... or a horde pally...
I'm not too impressed with this tbh.

    They've filled up the thread...

    Our LFG channel exploded...

As did every other channel. Hell we were talking about it in BG's...

    Talk about unexpected.

Absolutly worst idea ever. Worse even then the global LFG channel, and that was a very, very bad idea.

What's worse is, everyone has, at some stage, moaned about the paladin/shaman imbalance, and how one is better or worse. Now, they've done the logical thing, and no-one's happy.

Funny.. they take the easy way out and effectively solve PvE imbalance and people cry about it, yet the main whine people had was that paladins are vastly superior in PvE. This is actually a pretty good step forward in my opinion, now both classes can be tuned to what they should really be like themselves without racial imbalance in mind.

I think it will make the game a lot fairer, and for that, we can at least be thankful.

Unfortunately, pve is about to get a lot easier, and I dont know what will happen there...

Imagine an ass-comb rogue, with AQR and a Brutality Blade or something like that, with gBoM, gBoK and Windfury totems... Could be unreal.

My post from the wow forums, to save retyping :p

I personally think all of this is wasted.
    Let me explain...

First of all, we are basing our views (as to whether paladins will end up replacing shaman) on our knowledge of the classes as they stand right now i.e. level 60's. But when alliance get shaman and horde get paladins there will be 10 extra levels to contend with. Thus giving extra options when it comes to talents and more importantly, presumably extra skills/spells.

Not to mention the fact, that now that both sides will have shamans AND paladins, blizzard can now design instances with this in mind.

As a 60 mage, doing BWL, I can honestly admit to hating the suppression rooms and Nef's Zerg in Phase 3, but without those, I would presumably be replaced by a rogue or warlock.

So what does this teach us? It teachs us, that raids become designed in such a way that each of the classes are _REQUIRED_ In this case, it means that instances will be designed to need shamans AND paladins.

Thus, ensuring PvE balance and the necessity for all classes.

Honestly though, the only valid reasons (that I can see) for disliking this expansion is due to lore. And aside from my opinion that this is extremely narrow minded (its blizzards lore ffs), I think the lore is rather well written.

Human/dwarf paladins believe in the light and are, thusly granted its powers.

Blood elf's have merely bypassed the belief system and forced the Naaru to grant them the same powers.

There is no belief structure, its all about power. And for a race who is corrupted and fueled by magic, it seems very plausible for them to be able to twist it to their end.

So, with all that said, I just cant quantify the problems with this news.

For those without a problem, here's to you!

For those with a problem, give it some more time, until further details are released before blindly walking away from the game.

In either case, enjoy the game while it lasts and try not to take it too seriously...

    Rerolling Shaman without a doubt.

Now that I think about it, I'm quite tempted to roll one of each - Draenei shaman and Blood Elf paladin. Though certain friends of mine are on a "make sure Kirby never rolls another paladin" mission... :p

i look forward to trying a drenai shaman and a blood elf pally myself. i've wanted to be a pally again for a while now, so i will probably wait till the expansion.

do you think that this will allow more shammy's and pally's to spec the way they want to, rather the going purely healing or totem spec?

I don't believe this for one minute tbh, has to be a joke. Its not like Blizzard have never done something like this before.
