    Well thats the whole Building regs versus technical guidance documents argument.
    It would depend on the usage of the room, if you can show that you comply in a way outside the TGD (such as engineered fire protection in large buildings) then you comply. The intended use of the room would play a part.Bedroom or study, as would the fire alarm.

    Correct but it is necessary and relevant. So too are a lot of other parts of the bldg. regs when it comes to a single dwelling as opposed to multi developments.

    In this case, depending on the number and heights of floors, it will be necessary to provide protection to the stairwell which can be in the form of fire doors or storey height construction to the stairwell enclosure or both
