yeah i know im a retard for even asking this. I have to redesign my teams spreadsheets to make logging and running reports easier at the end of the month. Now i have been taught how to use Excel but for the life of me i cant remember what i need to do here.

on sheet 1 i have the data entry fields for my team. ive managed to get my menu's and totals done for sheet 2 except....

in one column (sheet1) called "Resolution" i have 5 options in a drop down menu, they have to be broken down for reporting and i want to output to a specific field on sheet 2.

ive been banging my head on the screen for the last few hours.

so for example it looks like this
Resolution
Complete
incomplete
incomplete
incomplete
incomplete
Complete
Complete

    on sheet 2 i want
    |Complete | 3
    |Incomplete| 4

    any help would rock.

A pivot table should do that for you quite easily:

ha! tell that to my boss.

he went on holiday for a week yesterday and handed me work to do, i have about 10 different workbooks to redesign and test. pivottable will save me a lot of time.

You could also have used COUNTIF(range, criteria)

    two examples

    1.
    Countif($A$1:$A$5176,"Complete")

    2.
Countif($A$1:$A$5176,$M$1) where $M$1 has "Complete" in that cell
Countif($A$1:$A$5176,$M$2) where $M$2 has "Incomplete" in that cell
