    Carzone and the like prices are not "real life" prices. They are mostly dealer asking prices which do not take into account trade ins, warranties and other overheads. A private seller then sees these prices and asks for similar money.

    To the OP what model is the Golf? eg baseline, comfortline? In other words does it have electric windows, electric mirrors, more comfortable seats, cd player ,etc? Basic VWs of that age didn't have these things which will have an influence on the price of the car as people desire them.

    Also I doubt the alloy wheels will make much difference to the value of the car itself. They may make it easier to sell depending on who is interested in the car. The owner might be better taking them off and selling them seperately.
