Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The hole diameter depends on what birds you want in your bird house.

Have a look at a these sites for more info...

An unfortunate choice of thread title. You could consider editing. :)However, you do need to have an idea of what type of birds are in the area and what type of birds you want to use the box. Look also at the location of the box. Are there other factors scaring the birds off? Are they frequenting the area? Is it the box they are avoiding or maybe something more than that?. Do a bit of research on the sites given. Adjust it accordingly. Leave it up for now, but at this point maybe aim for it being used next spring.

    25mm for blue tits
    32mm for house/hedge sparrows
    45mm for starlings.

Make sure you don't add a perch.
Make sure it's not facing the midday sun or prevaling wind.

As said already, dont bother adding a perch, make the front of the box rough (like tree bark)....
Maybe try putting some bird seed near (not too near though, no bird thats looking for a nest will use one if there are 20 other birds hopping on and off it to feed), the box to draw their attention to it.
You can get little hanging bird food balls etc from any supermarket for a couple of quid. :)
