Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Used to go to secondary school there, and saw too much of it! :D

Seriously, it's not too bad a town. Nothing big in the line of shopping attractions though.

Yeah i was my first time to ireland. My parent made me and my sis go on a CIE tour with them.

    Ugh.

I liked Ireland but the our was annoying. I liked ballyshannon. It was manegable, yet had things to do. The elerctics store had almost nothing, but the lady was nice. We stayed at Dorianns Imperial hotel, which was nice. I would want to go back to the northwest, but not on a tour.

Ballyshannon was a weird town when I was a kid. It was about the only town that I'd go to with the lads and no-one would pick a fight with us (what a relief). Not that we'd be looking for a fight but if we went to some other towns or villages that shall remain nameless, almost always a bunch of lads would show up to ward us off. We'd hardly go there cause there was bugger all to do, no discos, no nightclubs (there is Bundoran but enough said about that!). To be honest I used to think it was a dump!

But, they got that weird accent! (Anyone else think so?). They used to have their own slang (do they still?).

These days when I visit the cousins there, and I think it's a nice looking wee town, and the pubs look more interesting than in Donegal Town. Plus, it now has a shopping center, and the leisure center has been there for ages.

    >I would want to go back to the northwest,
    Good man!
    >but not on a tour.
I can't blame you. But, you gotta be 21 or 23 to drive a rentacar in Ireland! ;) If your there again, you need to check out Bundoran (so you can see what the Irish call a seaside resort), Rossnowlagh (a big beach with surfers), Lough Erne, Ben Bulben, .... sure have the fun is finding places yourself. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Well my parents could drive, seeing as they are 48. NY drivers licences are valid in the eu.

We drove through bundoran, it was nice, but my heritage is from the sligo/donegal/lietrem border near mullaghmore, so i liked that the best. We stopped for lunch in some surfer place in clare, i think it was called lahinch or something. I also like the road from KIllybegs to glencolumbcille, with that dirt road around the boglands, and we stopped at the very end of the road with this cove under cliffs with a long staircase, and we went for a swim, and it was nice.

@ Bettlebrox: Yes Ballyshannon does have an odd accent! And most sentances may be finished with "sham" eg "How are ye, sham?" "Would you look at the sham there" :D

@ seamus21514: The road from Killybegs to Glencolmcille is not what I'd call nice, but each to their own! I think the cove you mention is the Silver Strand.

At least they're honest about it. In Sligo "sham" is a derrogatory term. As in "shambag". It's what normal people call leery, sportswear clad youths who strut about with a walk which suggests a long ride on horseback (legs splayed. gansta stylee), being rude and confrontational to people who want nothing to do with them, thinking it makes them look cool to the "skank" in the passenger seat, who's invariably some years their junior, and if whose father found out who she was with, would take said "shambag", and proceed to administer a severe and well merited fustigation. "Buddy":D

I just liked how stark the road was. Was very pretty in a weird way.

I suppose my living not too far from it means I don't appreciate what's nearby! :)

Greetings from Ballyshannon... moved here about 10 years ago... great spot to live and socialise in... a small town with 20 drink licences.. excellent. have to admit the hills on both sides of the river are a bit steep (maybe i should give up the B&H)New bridge looks excellent. No more traffic jams with the new by-pass. Everyone knows everyone... All in all not a bad place to be
