Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BT or DigiWeb 2mb - which would you choose?

I have an Eircom phoneline and want to get broadband for €30/month.
The BT and Digiweb 2mb packages seem virtually identical (for €30 with eircom you only get 1mb).
I already have a wireless router. The only difference seems to be the connection fee (€30 for Digiweb, €40 for BT).

Can anyone with some experience of either/both tell me which one they would go for?

    Thanks

With Digiweb you will be restricted if you break the cap, but BT don't do anything unless you go way over. If the cap isn't an issue then that won't matter. I've read some bad reports about Digiweb's customer service but have had first hand experience of BT's, and they are extremely poor in that area.

I've never had any issues with the speeds on BT though, it's rock solid. Wireless networks do seem to suffer from poor speeds more so than wired ones, though I don't think any Digiweb customers are being hit yet.

BT and their bills (or lack of) could well be a major problem and I wouldn't recommend them without that warning, though in terms of broadband and price they can't be beat, except by Smart. Are you on a Smart enabled exchange by any chance? If so, get that.

    Many thanks jor el,

I want to keep the phone line at eircom as it is in the landlady's name and I don't want to go messing with it.

I think I will go for BT then, for the stability, and then take my chances with the customer service!

    Thanks again.

One advantage of the BT product is that if you switch your calls to BT, you can get your 2MB broadband and your line rental for €40 inclusive (versus €54.18 if you pay eircom for your line rental and either BT or Digiweb for your broadband).

The downside is that some people have had major billing problems with BT.

From a quality point of view, both services are actually resold versions of eircom DSL, so the basic product is similiar.

(Sorry - just saw your post about the landlady. You won't be able to get the benefit of the BB bundle without her consent. Are you paying the line rental or is she?)

If you keep the line rental with Eircom then you'll have to keep paying that on top of the broadband. BT do a nice bundle price on BB+Line rental but if you can't change then you can't. If the landlady is paying the rental already then all the better.

UTV are also worth considering as for an extra €6 a month you get a 120G cap, if you wanted to go mad on the downloads that is.
