    Just so everyone knows:

Any third year who applied for Roebuck Hall you're in. They had enough space for all who applied and licences were sent out on monday.

And where did you get this information?

From the administrator of Roebuck Hall who told me on the phone on Monday when I rang to enquire when those who applied for Roebuck Hall would be finding out about whether or not they got campus.

Ya see I told you roebuck was a sure thing if you applied and it really isnt as bad as it seems especially if your on the top floor with the single rooms.
The view from the roof top at nightime is perfect. You can see all over Dublin, really beautiful.Best View on campus

im going into final year now and i applied but i was told that we would be notified by email......do i smell inefficiency???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

Yeah i was told the email thing too - didn't happen - i heard that the places were being given out from a few friends who'd dropped into the roebuck hall office. Although I was talking to the admin for Merville too and he said that Roebuck Hall was the last to be sent out as far as he knew, everyone bar first years was already knew from his end anyways.

my friend and i both applied for campus. we are both final years. My friend rang them up to see why they hadnt replied to our applications yet . they said that we wouldnt find out till about the 15th of August. We were told we would probably get campus but because we are final years we would only get glenomena and we would not get offered anywhere else. Does anyone think this is unfair as glenomena is the most expensive place on campus at 117euro/week while merville is only 93euro/week. Glenomena is outside my budget so ill have to look for somewhere off campus. The student union should campaign to have this changed instead of having stupid elections to ban coca cola etc. anyone in agreement with me or am i on my own on this subject?

Hello, can someone answer me this question please.
I have a viewing for a house on Wednesday and in order to arrange an appointment I had to ring a letting agency. This house appears to be perfect for us and therefore I am reallt worried that it may be given to someone else. The letting agency said I have the first appointment but if someone came in to the office (before I got my viewing) with the deposit and said, "I want that house", would the letting agency give it to them even though they have a load of appointments arranged?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

Can't really say for certain - depends on the letting agency and who it is, say if it was someone they had dealt with before and knew were good tennants etc they may - if it was some random person they may not. Tbh you'd have to ask them

Hi, I have a question. I just received an envelope in the mail from housing at UCD and all that was inside was a receipt for my Glenomena housing fee. The envelope was ripped so I am wondering if there was something else inside of it, like a message that I got housing at Glenomena...or doesa receipt for housing payment arrive on its own without further papers?

Because I got a receipt, does this mean that I have housing? Does anyone know if housing is closed for Glenomena?

Also, it is a single(or US twin) size bed in the glenomena apartments, correct?

    thanks.

Not 100% sure. It could just be a acknowledgement of your deposit. But generally if you're a PG and apply to the Glen you get it. More info will prob come later. If you're worried, email them: info.glenomena@ucd.ie

And it's a standard UK single bed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed#Bed_sizes

Happened to me when we were looking for a house. Totally depends on the agency.

I definitely think that preference should go to students from outside Dublin. And that it's very unfair if a student from Dundrum/Ranelagh etc gets a place that could have gone to a student from outside the county.

I couldn't agree with you more kirby, as you've probably heard me rant, I applied for res is 1st year 4 years ago, and didn't get it, so i ended up living in delgany with my aunt and uncle for 3 weeks til i found somewhere to live. It was really hard, cause I didn't know dublin, I didn't know anyone in dublin, and i didn't get a chance to socialise or anything properly for ages.

Then I found out two of the people I knew who were living on campus were from mount merrion and sandycove!! That was a kicker.

Oh no, its going to be so disappointing when we find out the house is gone. We just arent that lucky to get a house that suits so well. I'd love if someone could say "No, the chances of that happening are very small." However, unfortunately, I think that the chances of it happening are massive considering the extreme demand on housing in Dublin, especially in this area.
Such a pity, its a great place.
But I'll still have a flicker of hope until I here the words, "Im sorry but that ouse has been let."
I apoligise for rambling on a bit too much.

For everyone's information, the new SU Accommodation & Employment Officer starts today, replacing Shaun Smyth who's moving into the big bad world of King's Inns.

It's Michael Pat O'Donoghue, and you can get him at suaccommodation@ucd.ie or at 01 7163117. I'd post his mobile but I'm not sure if he's getting a new one for work stuff.

As per, he'll be keeping the housing list open and looking for new landlords to supply stuff so if none of the other sites are coming up trumps, knock an email that way and get the current list from him.

BUT he doesn't start for a week so there's no officer for this week...

I'm going to be a post-grad in Archaeology in the Autumn and havent a clue where to start with the whole accomodation thing. Any advice would be mighty.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

Well if you fancy living on Campus applications are accepted until the 31st of August. Check http://www.ucd.ie/residences/accomodationfinder.html that shows where postgrads can live etc and you can click on links to find out about the various different places.

As you're doing a postgrad in Archaeology and will be based on campus you'll probably be in Glenomena: http://www.ucd.ie/residences/glenomena.html

If you want to live off res best advice is to get a map, work out where you can live, and get on websites such as daft.ie or check the evening herald. Oh and a good thing to do is to start looking before the CAO offers come out, after the leaving cert results people will be starting to look but the main rush will come after the offers.

Other than that, best of luck! I'm sure others will add to this anyways

seriously this is a joke when are we gonna find out???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

I've heard some are finding out next week but that's only a rumour - best bet is to ring or email them and ask them when they're letting people know. Probably the best bet I'd say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,510 ✭✭✭recyclebin

i got offered glenomena this week. You have to accept your offer by the 18th of August. Dont know if ill take glenomena as its too expensive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Gah, I want to live somewhere. Other than here or at home, obviously. Main reasons being landlady suffering from pole-up-the-hole-itis and bills being too high here, home being too far away.

    Do affordable houses exist? Nope!!!

Because you're students for a start. I had a bad time getting a place until I got a place on Roebuck Road.
You might just have to settle for somewhere further away than you had planned for.
