Personally, it wouldn't be for me at all - may not be as common as a standard 323 saloon or a CI, but I don't think it looks anywhere as nice. The front looks grand, but the back looks all wrong to me. You shoulda snapped up that 323 that was on sale here!

If you are looking at a larger engine size BMW, than maybe an e36 M3?

This may be over budget, but it is a cracking car - I have seen it in the flesh (metal?) and it's a beauty. BMW 323 CI M-TECH

Whatever you get, make sure it has a good resale value as you don't seem to be one for holding on to your car for too long!

ah im just looking about eoin, doubt id buy it, i have seen a lovely 320ci 00 for not too bad a price may take a look.

Im very picky about what ill buy tho, specifically service history/spec and mileage, sold the 156 for what i paid and hope to get a similar result on the golf :)

that 323 is very nice but mileage would put me off as would paying that much extra for the sellers (admittedly very tasteful) mods

the 323 that was selling on here didnt do it for me, no leather, few fix ups needed, no spanks :) an e36m3 is uninsurable for now, and tax would be a killer :)

i reckon ill prolly end up going for a 320ci - nice 6 pot 2.2ltr 170 bhp (get 180 with a map) with low miles, easy to sell nice to drive :)

A remap on the 2.2 will release no power at all! The one guy who had his done at our remapping day actually lost power. The E46 ECU's actually 're-programme' themselves according to your driving style, and don't respond well to remapping. The plus point is that the 320ci in question was dynoed at 186BHP with just a new exhaust.

That 323ci is a huge spec, belongs to a mate. Don't think you're essentially paying for his mods - any coupe with full leather and the sports kit will always demand a premium over more basic models. You could sell the bootlid alone for €1k if you wanted to.

Oh, by the way, the ti is a smashing car to drive. Handles fantastically. Not too gone on the looks of them being honest - but if you do like the way they look, you'd be buying a really good car.

These are much nicer and more sought after:

I reckon the Compact will be difficult to sell on as they are not loved that much and a 2.5 litre will be next to impossible to move.

I don't really understand the concept of a compact with an engine that size. I can understand that the smaller compacts are probably aimed at people who want the badge, and are willing to compromise, but if you are able to tax and insure a 2.5 litre engine, then why would someone not go for the coupe?

It doesn't even look like the compact offers any more practicality than the coupe.

i think you have a 320d tho eoin, diesels normally respond well to remaps

i presume the diesel is a turbo? (arent most decent diesels) if so a remap will adjust boost

That's my one alright, will probably go for it if the insurance isn't a problem.

Did you ever follow up on the E36 convertible? That would probably be my pick of the bunch of the cars you have mentioned so far... The one in red you linked to looked like a lovely car.

Sorry Eoin - meant the petrol E46's... the diesel ones perform very nicely after the remap
