I am in the middle of building an extension onto the house..is it enough, when joining the extension to the existing blockwork/house/wall to simply cut the existing wall and slot in blocks from the extension to create the join?

Do I need to do anything else?

Not 100% sure what you mean when you say "cut the existing wall" but for joining new to existing blockwork, I would fix an abbey slot:

or some similar system. Saves you "cutting" existing blockwork!!!!

I would use the Acon ties.

We have something similar in the Netherlands and it's so easy to use.
Just drill a hole in the existing wall, put a plug in it, than screw the tie in the plug so that the other end is flat in between two blocks. Your concrete mix will "fix" it.

I put a tie in every 4th row.
