I've been looking for a new series to get for a while. Does anyone know if this is any good? I've read the synopsis on the different volumes but a few opinions would be helpful.

Also Tenjho Tenge (sp) if anyone's a fan.

    Thanks for any replies

Assuming you're talking about the manga; Ikki Tousen is a pretty typical dumb fanservice-filled shonen action series from what I've seen. If you're into that kinda thing I guess it's alright. This is another manga which was 'adapted' by Keith Giffen for Tokyopop, so expect ridiculously americanised dialogue, and general crappiness in the translation.

Tenjho Tenge....If you've been following the English-language manga scene in even a very partial way, you'll surely have heard the massive ruckus regarding this title. Basically CMX completely gutted the series, removing dialogue and censoring the artwork left, right and centre. This is, of course, to allow a lower age rating and (theoretically) better sales. This pretty much backfired, and caused a huge amount of animosity among manga fans, which was only increased when CMX basically snubbed their fanbase and refused to consider re-releasing an unedited version of the series, in any way, shape or form. So, yeah, if you want to read a higly censored version of Tenjho Tenge, go for the English-language version from CMX. If you want to read the series as it was intended to be read, seek out the original Japanese versions, or I'm sure the series has been released in Spanish or French.

As for the actual content, I hear the art is exceptional, and overrall it's a pretty decent, if slightly trashy, book. Another series by the same author, 'Air Gear' , is being released (unedited :o ) by Del Rey, so you might wanna look into that too.

Sorry for the rant, but hope it helped in some way.

Cheers for that. Wasn't aware of any of the hassle with Tenjho Tenge but it was the dvds as opposed to the books that I was referring to. Are they also heavily chopped & censored?

A friend recomended Ikki but I didn't like it. Its basically soft-core porn. Alot of women fighting and cloths getting torn off bodies :p

    Dont know about Tenjho Tenge

Guess I'll give that a miss then.

While I think of it, can anyone suggest a half decent mecha-series as well?

What have you already seen and liked?

I've only seen the main ones really

    Macross Saga
    Robotech
    Neon Genesis Evangelion (kinda mechy)
    Orguss 02
    Detonator Orgun

And a few others that have mecha aspects to them like Appleseed.

More looking for a large series to get my teeth into. Was looking into Full Metal Panic but for the life of me, I couldn't tell what order they should be viewed in and then I spotted Full Metal Alchemist and I gave up

Well Full Metal Panic was released in the order
    Full Metal Panic
    Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu
Full Metal panic: The Second Raid

But you can watch Fumoffu at any time, as its a spin-off series.

If you liked Evangelion you should try RahXaphon which is a very similar series but focuses more on the Mechs then the "OMG Mankind Angst!!" stuff as in Eva. Its also got a very nice story and character development.

I'm not a huge mecha fan myself so I can't really comment on the other stuff you listed as I haven't seen em. I've been meaning to watch Detonator Orgun though.

Also good is Eureka Seven and of course Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

I have both of the Ghost In The Shell movies, all of Stand Alone Complex 1st gig and picking up the 2nd gig volumes as they're released. Prob one of my faves. Ooh, the major!!!! :D

Speaking of which, Vol 4 of the 2nd gig and Vol 1 of the last series of Robotech should be winging their way over to me as we speak.

Might pick up Full Metal Panic and Tenjho Tenge then
