Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Whats the difference and which one would be the better connection for High def. tv? Is there a visible difference?

HDMI is a digital video/audio interface, component is an analog system using 3 seperate cables/signals. Both can carry video up to 1080p.

HDMI is the preferred choice because:
    • It's a neater and simpler cable
    • It can also carry audio
    • In theory it gives a better picture (but TBH most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference)
    • It's going to be the standard on devices from now on, and we'll probably start seeing less devices with component video

If you plan watching any copy protected HD material, you will need HDMI or HDCP enabled DVI.

Component outputs will not output copy protected signals in HD resolution.

My Viiv enabled PC will not allow an upscaled dvd on the component output!, only on the HDMI

Thanks for the info. It is useful to know these things when hunting for a LCD tv. The salespeople wont usually give (or even know) this info.

Also some Component sources will be restricted in what they can output eg my dvd upscaler will not give 720p/1080i through component but will through HDMI so there's a big difference between component and HMDI for my setup
