    Hey guys,

Taking the punge and building my first machine :)

Been looking at Komplett, and will probably go with the following setup (though wil try and source one or two bits from places that may be cheaper)

    CPU
    Pentium D 2.8
    €149 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=322649&s=sc
I know the Conroe is due out soon, but I'm not really pushed tbh, need something to keep me going, dont really need the shiniest new trend (well, cant afford it more like :( )

    Motherboard
    EPoX EP-5NVA+SLi
    €134 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=310570&s=sc
Seems like a solid enough SATA board from what I can gather, without breaking the bank

    GPU
Point of View GeForce 7900GT 512mb
    €379 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=320626&s=sc
Again, going for something thats not brand spanking new, and is therefore a wee bit more reasonable pricewise.

    Case
    In-Win X710G(S) Silver Full Tower
    €75 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=308857&s=sc
Never heard of these guys, but the case comes with a 430w PSU (which is rumoured to be noisey though) and a front lcd panel. Since I'll also be attempting my first case mod (yay :) ) I don't want to go for an expensive one in case I feck it up

    Harddrive
    Barracuda 7200 SATA - 320gig
    €105 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=320709&s=sc

    DVD Drive
    LG DVD±RW burner
    €45.50 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=317923&s=sc

    RAM
    Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2
    €95 per gig - getting 2 gigs - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=310518&s=sc

Thats the basic plan at the mo. I know there's more to take into account (OS, peripherals, soundcard, monitor) but am I missing anything obvious? As far as I can see, everything compatible. But would I be better off changing a component to something better/faster/cheaper?

The above comes to €1080 (ex delivery). Am I getting shafted on any particular part? I'm still checking other retailers to see if any parts come up as being cheaper, but I want to make sure the above will work.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Cheers folks :)

    J

I did this up for a friend the other day, but I think it would be applicable to you

Pointless buying a great gfx card to replace it in a short time for a Dx10 one.

Go with Core 2 Duo & mobo to suit & use everythin else in Krazy 8s post.

Cheers krazy, will have a gander through that list.

Pog, is the Core Duo (and board to match) really worth the extra money being thrown at it? I'd prob go for the E6600 if I didn't have to worry bout money, but tis more than double what I'd be paying for the other one.

As I said earlier, I'm all for splashing out on the latest piece of tech in spirit, its the wallet thats weak :(

    Cheers for the feedback lads

You dont have to get the e6600. The e6300 is 185 euro at komplett and a board supporting conroe should only cost you sround 50 euro more than the one you have picked out.

Have you not been following this forum. E6600 on stock beats everythin Amd have to offer, at way less than half the price. Clocks like a beast 2 round 4Ghz also. Totally worth the extra expense IMO. Spoil yourself. :D

Even E6300 can clock over 3Ghz on air. Go for that or E6400 2 save quids.
