Taking the car to Britain

I'll be moving to the UK soon for at least a year, possibly longer, so I want to look into bringing my car with me. Could anyone point me in the right direction, what I need to be aware of when it comes to tax/insurance/import duty/driving licence etc. because I'm not sure where to begin. Thanks!

Have a look at the import information on the DVLA site:

    http://www.dvla.gov.uk/faq/faq_imports_exports.htm

There shouldn't be any import duty issues, UK VRT is tiny by comparision here and you are probably already insured for a limited time abroad on your current policy (check with your insurer). You can also transfer your licence if you wish to but it shouldn't be a requirement.

Why not sell it here, buy a nice shiny (and cheaper) new one over there and bring it back to Ireland VRT free when you come back? Driving licence is fine, no need to do anything there until it expirs.
