    Hi,

Can anyone recommend decent gyms in Dublin 1/2/4? I will mainly be doing weight training using free weights as I do my cardio in the fresh air. However, I find specialist Body Builder gyms maybe a slight bit intimidating (in saying that I was thinking of looking into Pinnacle off Camden St.)

I had a look at SV Fitness in the IFSC because the location is ideal but unfortunately the free weight section is not great. Other options could be Westwood in Sandymount or Clontarf as it is on my way home from work. Has anyone experience of these or others in D1/2/4?

I'd mainly be able to train around 4.30pm and I obviously don't want to be queuing for ages to use equipment. Price is important too.

    Thanks in advance.

Many thanks Dubdude. I had a look at their website. The setup looks impressive.

I'm looking for a new gym in the city centre and am interested in Markievicz because of the pay as you go policy. Just have few questions if anyone has been there recently your feedback would be appreciated:
Cardio area-is there much equipment does it get busy in mornings?
Air con-is the cardio area comfortable to work in or is it stuffy? I read a review on another site that said lack of air con put someone off?
The changing area-is it clean and are the showers communal or cubicle style?
Any other pros/cons on this gym?
    Thanks

Just a heads up on crime in this particular gym too!.

There has been a spate of locker & car break in's recently, I've three friends who have fallen victim in recent weeks - be VERY vigilent when leaving your car - and please, please LOCK YOUR LOCKER!.

Better still, do as I've started to do - use the Tescos car park opposite.

Same in Raw Condition. Could sort it out myself in half an hour with some Tipp-EX and a weighing scales.

That plus the general problems like broken machines etc has me not renewing for next year.

Does Raw have an Olympic Lifting platform/rubber mat area ?
I presume you are allowed drop weights somewhere ?

    Thx

Every gym has broken machines, don't let that put you off somewhere. There is no real alternative in the area unless you consider Northwood, and believe me thats a kip of the highest order.

I know but just today they're 3 different x-trainers where the HR monitors were either gone or not working, the hydrotherapy pool was not working properly, the general gunge/crap not cleaned out of the bottle holders on machines, anti-bacterial dispensers have been empty for weeks... I don't mean to **** on them totally because the people who work up there couldn't be nicer but for that money I just think they need to take care of some of those basics.

    WARNING

In the past month at least 4 cars have been broken into in the Total Fitness Car Park in Castleknock. According to the Garda at Blanchardstown the car park is at present being targeted by a gang whose M.O. is to use a screwdriver to force the car door lock. Please leave nothing of value in your cars (including the boot) and ask the Gym manager about the current status of security measures in the car park.

That's terrible. It's a shame the Gardai do not temporarily put someone watching that car park so-if only for a couple nights one week. I suppose resources are being better deployed stopping Drug dealers shooting other Drug dealers with the last 18months or so of uniform Gardai walking up and down Oriel & Sheriff St whilst two plain clothes Gardai have a snooze in the car at the bottom of the street.

Its 79 per month for myself but maybe gone down now.

Its excellent gym but yes the price is quiet steep i am just lucky that I get it for half price with my rugby club otherwise it be too expensive really

It was 70each if you joined with another person - expensive but a great gym. Might be gone down now - give them a call.

I rejoined ALSAA at the airprt lately...

Single membership 199eur for the year - you pay each time you use the facility. 3 eur for the 25m pool in the airport and 4 eur for the gym (suits me as I'm not the most consistent and wouldn't use all facilities!)

Family membership - 265 eur for the year. Note that when I joined, intending to pay the single membership, I said my boyfriend was interested and would it be possible for us to join with a family membership? No problem!! So 132eur each for the year, plus 3/4eur each time we use it!!!!(and if you've got kids they can join with you - up to 4 kids I think - under that family membership, and have access to all the clubs). Got to be the cheapest place out there.

Full membership is 365eur (or thereabouts) for the year, and you don't pay to use the facilities each time.

They've got great facilities, although I know the weights section in the gym could be improved, but I'm more of a swimmer/runner so it's okay for me. There's a 25m pool in the airport, which I've got a lot of use from over the years. Plus the range of classes and clubs they have available is great...there's also a boot camp run there now during the week.

    I'm a happy camper!!!!:)

I used their pool ONCE about a year ago, I wore my flipflops on the walk from the dressing rooms etc. A week or two later i have 3 ferrucas on my feet (for the first time ever in my life). They obviosuly never hose down/treat the floor

I've never used the pool since. Its disgusting to think of the germs etc that must left sitting there.

    Hi

Looking to join a gym in the next month or two (im running out of weight plates in my shed so looking to join a gym instead of plashing out on 50-100 quid for extra weights every few months, and my bench is broke so thats gonna cost me a few quid as well)

Anyone use BD fitness in Lucan or Liffey Valley Fitness?

Was wondering how busy it would be in the mornings Mon-Fri between 7am and 8.30am. And Mon to Fri 5pm to 7pm.

Or does anyone know the best times to go when its not too busy.

    Cheers.

Anyone feel like recommending a gym in the Celbridge / lucan / Maynooth type area?

My membership with the Mill in Celbridge is ending soon and would just like to know my options.

I've had a gander at the gym in Finnstown, that was small but might do. Anyone a member here?
