Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My God, Talk about Keeping it Country.
Check out Quinns opening team selection for the new season.

    B Alnwick, R Delap, K Cunningham, S Caldwell, D Collins, T Miller, G Leadbitter, D Whitehead, L Lawrence, S Elliott, D Murphy

Almost half the team are Irish. And there only the ones that are definitely Irish. Does anyone know if Miller and Collins are too. Looks like Sunderland could be playing in a snazzy new Green Jersey this season.

They're gonna need all the support they can get by the looks of things. 1-0 up with 20 mins to go suddenly turns into 2-1 down with 10 to go. Has a certain inevitability about it.

Daryl Murphy signed a new 5 year contract during the week despite only scoring 1 goal last year (I think). Quinn minding his own it seems.

Murphy never really got a chance. He spent half the season on loan AFAIK. Got few PL starts and took his goal well against Spurs I think it was.

I'm pleased to see Sunderland with so many Irish starters. It'd be good to see them do well this year and get back into the PL. Perhaps they could make a decent run at it for once.

Sunderland are riddled with Irish players, most of them poor, simply because McCarthy didn't know anything else but Irish football

As usual you are wrong, again.

sunderland are "riddled with irish players" because Lawrence is english and was signed for a packet of chewing gum from some league two side, elliot was a great investment, about 250k when he left man city, Cunningham is the best defender in the championship (IMHO) and probably the best captian as well, Delap was a good buy in january and will be way above the championship standard and Murphy was a great buy from waterford (cost something like 4 lucazde sport and a mars bar) and will be a damned good championship player.

Irish football isn't restricted to the EL

I'd also like to add that they did just loose a few players and are in to process of signing another 4 or 5, so that won't be the first team squad in a few weeks, I'd expect thier starting squad to be more like

    Alwick

    Nosworthy---Cunningham----Caldwell
    R. Elliot

    Lawrence
    Delap
    Leadbitter
    Walsh

    S.Elliot
    Stead

Subs: Murphy, Whitehead, Miller, Collins, Kyle

It looks like Sunderland are taking Anthony Stokes on loan too. He had a trial with them last week.

Sunderland signed Clive Clarke from West Ham yesterday and he came on after half an hour tonight. He gave away a peno though which led to the only goal of the game. All 5 Irish listed in the OP started again.

btw - Quinn didn't take Stokes as he wanted him to have more of a chance of playing 1st team football.
