Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking to set up a fairly basic surround sound system for my Xbox 360....

I'm a bit of a noob, but if i understand corectly i need:

    1 Dolby Digital receiver.
    1 Amplifier
5 Speakers (One woofer, two 'main' speakers and two satellite speakers)

Can ayone recomend what brands i should be looking at for each?

Ideally, i'd like to get them somewhere in Dublin, but a trip up to Richer Sounds in Belfast isn't out of the question.

    Thanks in advance.

Generally the amp and DD decoder are in the one unit.

Take a look at the recievers on the richer sounds website and see what takes your fancy. If you need any questions on them answered post them up here.

As regards speakers, depending on the type, you might not actually need a sub. Personally I dont use mine because the other speakers are loud enough to annoy the neighbours already.

You might also get away with a "one box" solution if it has an optical input for the 360 as an "aux" or something.

If you want something cheap and thats for games in that fashion.
I remember Logic doing doing a Dolby digital 5.1 gaming system that consisted of a small decoder box a Sub and 5 satellite speakers

    If its still available somewhere.
Other than that you can have a look on komplett

This set I have heard and is massive

Would the package on the komplett be suitable to hook up to sky hd and a sony dvd recorder? I understand from reading other posts that two optical connections would be required. Does this fit the bill?

Would your DVD player not have a co-ax out? (RCA), as you can use that for the DVD and leave the optical spare for the skybox.

    Link is working for me.

    Here's the info:

Logitech Z-5500 5.1 THX, DTS, 5 Satellites and Subwoofer, 505 Watt

    Navigation from komplett homepage
    Components -> Speakers -> Speakers
Scroll down toward the end of the page.
