Myself and some friends have started a dedicated Live For Speed server.
It's called "||| Racing for Ireland". Feel free to pop in anytime, there were quite a few Irish people on it lastnight, which is great to see :)

    [OT]

Cool, well at the moment it's set-up with the same combo as the 1st round of the ESL UK Pro Series.
This series which starts on the 4th Sept and runss ever 2nd Monday until December offers a nice cash prize for the Top 3 drivers in the championship. £500 (STG) to the winner last i heard. And that goes up as sponsorship comes in.
The final races is held at a LAN Party in Birmingham in December. And also the series is sponsored by Intel.
As it's a UK championship Ireland are allowed in the back door. Would be great top have some irish winning the prizes!! :D
I'd like to think i'd be in with a shout of the top 3 after winning a few of the last series rounds and finishing 10th despite missing 4 races.

    [/OT]

Anyway there are a few of us on it regularly usually weekday evenings/nights.
Feel free to pop in at any stage.

Pity im not into LFS anymore :(
I did love the physics but the AI and sound were incredibly pathetic.
I havent played it in ages but have it fully paid for etc.
Any improvements to AI and sound in last 6 months or so?

LFS was the first racing sim I played a few months ago, I downloaded the demo and tried it out for a while but ended up quitting in frustration at how twitchy and unmanageable the cars were. Taking Dcully's I went for rFactor instead and enjoyed it ever since. Having gotten somewhat experienced with driving since those early days I decided to give the demo a go again. I could not for the life of me figure out how people could applaud such awful handling. Sure enough the cars were as twitchy as hell, but this time I realised almost immediately why and checked the setup. For some reason the steering lock was set at 36 degrees, which is on my wheel is about 2" either way lock to lock. I turned it down to a more modest 11 degrees and was quite impressed with the handling, having little problem throwing cars around the track rathing than tippy-toeing them around.

Unfortunately at this stage between rFactor, GTL, and GTR2 on the way I have no time for a 4th sim, so LFS essentially lost my custom with a poor steering lock setting. While the problem may be obvious to a simming veteran, as it was to me the second time around, a clueless newbie isn't necessarily going to know this and may, like I did, assume it to be a failing of the game itself. Anyway just a word of warning to newbies wanting to give LFS a spin, if you're having problems controlling the thing CHECK THE STEERING LOCK!

AI!? thats for people who dont have internet :p
I have never played a single player game in LFS S2, but i have heard the A1 is still sh*t.
The sounds got a little better in S2 but not much. It's the worst part of LFS.
As far as the car handling an physics go, i have raced cars for years and both the single seater and the saloon cars are closer to real life than any other sim i've tried... GTR, GTL, rFactor, netKar.... etc...
I also know a BTCC driver who has the same thoughts and he plays quite regularly...
It just lacks polishing, but hey, when it has such good multiplayer none of that matters to me.

@SouperComputer: the server is quiet this week because i'm busy with work in the evenings and i'm usually the one who gets the other guys on! lol! but i should get on tomorrow night for a few hours around 9ish.
I started karting in 93... let me know if you come across anything interesting!

I often run rfactor and mods with its class AI.
    Its great running full seasons.
I still do online racing but not as often as i used to as i havent time for leagues etc.

Give me great ai,netcode, physics, sounds, vast amount of mods anytime.

    What have you raced?
Ive raced Formula Ford,RT2000 and rfactor is much closer than LFS but thats only my opinion.
Ive seen this debate so many times and its never resolved, looks like we will all have to agree to disagree :)
All great sims tbh and essential to a simracers collection.

I keep bouncing back and forth from Rfactor and LFS for realism. I think in terms of natural "feel" LFS has it. It needs tweaking alright, but its pretty decent.

Although today with rfactor I had a mixed grid @ Mondello National with the following grid:

    Rotax Max
    125 Gearbox
    88 NASCAR
    Modern F1 car
    Formula Nippon
    Vee-like school car
    McLaren F1
    BMW M3

and a couple of others. Interesting 1st corner let me tell you!

I do agree Nik about the "natural" feel of LFS,it always has felt excellent.
