Wondering how feasable it would be to have both Astra 2 and Atlanticbird 3 on the same 80cm dish in Basel, Switzerland? Don't particularly want to put up a second dish...

33 deg. is a big spread for 2 lnbs on one dish. I d'ont think you would have a chance.
    How about a diseq motor?

A toroidal dish will do a 40 degree spread (12.5W to 28E!!) . With a 95cm dish 21 degrees (7E to 28E ) does work. The limit for a larger non-toroidal dish is probabily 5E to 28E, 10 degrees short of what you want.

Motor is fine, but slow changing from 42E to 50W !!!

With a motor you want favorites and channels grouped by satellite or channel flicking will be very painful.

I've seen the toroidal dish, however the setup looks complicated, have you had any experience with them?

what is the range for a regular sky dish (sorry i'm a noob on this topic)

Using a regular sky dish for two satellites is not a good idea because of its shape.

The Sky dish is too small. For multiple satellite one or more LNBs are off the real axis that has the proper focus point and thus get a weaker signal.

Pointing an 80cm dish at the weaker satellite and using an off axis LNB for Sky works because Sky is very strong.

There are specially shaped dished for domestic and cable head end that allow much greater range than an ordinary dish.

No. But it is the same to setup as ANY multifeed dish. It just LOOKS complicated. You point the dish at the middle satellite of your range, then add extra LNBs one at a time.

Therefore I'd point it at about about 11.6E?
I'll give it some serious thought.

I presume you want to watch French tv (France) -AB3-5W- and also BBC/ITV from the UK -28 E.-. .....

May I advise you to keep an eye on TNT developments in France as the French government plans to widen its availability in catering for those who live in the Alps and in the Pyrenees. It is understood that Eutelsat's AB3 will be the satellite used for this purpose and this will provide at least 18 free French channels on simple once-off payment of about 60 euros for the decoder to be bought in France....
All this to be announced in October or November.....
Details were announced in the last few days on the satellites to be used for the new free FRANCE 24 news channel to be launched at end of November in Paris and Washington.
I note that at least one Swiss Canton ended its terrestrial analogue transmissions in early July.
Is TSR on satellite and if so which one? Free to air?

    By the way,
What is a 'toroidal' dish and how much might it cost here in Ireland, Watty? Would I get away with a 90 cm toroidal dish with three LNBs for 5W, 13E and 28E?

    Merci

    TSR is on Hotbird encrypted.
Swiss citizens can get a viewing card.

I use a toroidal T90 dish. It was only the second dish I ever put up. As Watty says its only looks complicated. Its not. The instruction I got with it were easy to follow. Have used it now for 2 years without problems

I also use toroidal dish. Its not as complicated as it looks. Although it gets trickier the more lnb's you add

Hurry, turn it to 5°w quickly, because my understanding is that all 18 TNT (DVB-T, DTT) channels will be available from november/december on AB3 (5°w), but encrypted only. You might get the smartcard pretty easily with relatives/friends in France, though. But you definitly need another box, 'cause your's a Free To Air box, only.
And hey, there's still the analouge channels until 2010 on the same bird, with 80cm dish.

As I said the TNT package of channels will be on AB3 by the end of year but do wait for confirmation from the French TNT authorities........

Hotbird (7A) has numerous French radio channels but apart from a few channels the TPS package is encoded....so monthly payment and address in France is required. The TNT package will be included in the basic TPS package.

There are very few French channels on Astra 19.....

Check out Lyngsat for specific details
