Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've been looking for an out of the box kit to get me up and running with wireless. I have Eircom BB and a Dell PC with no wireless adaptor and a Dell Laptop with Wireless card built in.
Not much experience with wireless so would this be a good option...

The general opinion expressed here (mainly by people who've never used them) is that Belkin gear is crap. I've never used Belking gear, and I'd go along with the general opinion :D

I have used belkin and they are crap.

Netgear, Dlink or Linksys are more reliable.

PC World have a Linksys bundle on special offer this week. Worth a look.

That Linksys bundle is for a laptop and I need a desktop adaptor.

Any thoughts on this one from Komplett?
    Cheers

I got a DLink bundle from PCWorld yesterday for 89.99 that came with a USB dongle as I needed a replacement for my 3com one that seems to be killing power suplies on me. They also had a LinkSys bundle listed on the board for the same price, but none of the ones on the shelf were the adsl version, only the cable ones.

    Edit:

That looks as if its the same as the one I got from PCWorld, although I think the model number is different, the specs look to be the exact same anyway.

They're not "cable" ones, they're broadband routers, and will work just as well with an ADSL modem as a cable modem (as long as it has an ethernet port).

True, but why go to the bother of configuring two boxes to work together when you can get it all in one if you have an adsl line. You then get to flog off the crappy free modem that Eircom give you to some fool on ebay which slightly reduces the pain of the line rental that you have to pay them.

But you still need a seperate modem with this right or do you just plug the adsl into it and away you go?

No it has a built in modem. So you jsut connect phone cable to it like you do with your current DSL modem.

Firstly, thanks for the advice guys. I purchased and installed the D-link option and it works no bother. I have both my desktop and laptop connected right now. Piece of pee to install.
Next question - security & monitoring.
I chose the quick install and ended up with a 24 (or so) character password to connect - I might need to revisit that :) but I suppose if I browse through the forum I'll find what I need to make sure nobody else can use it and that I can see who is, just in case.
    Cheers
