Went mackerel bashing yesterday off the pier in Howth when the tide was at it's highest, stayed for an hour hour.

Used feathers and a two ounce weight.

Caught one pollock and that was it.

    When is mackerel season?

Whens the best time to go fishing for them, high tide or just before high tide?

    Feedback appreciated.

Late summer, i.e. now, is mackerel season. Don't know about east coast, but in the south and west, either side of the tide is good - its just down to where and when they appear, since they move around in large shoals. If you see them breaking then you have hit the goldmine, and get your whole family down there with every bit of string and shiny thing in the house and you'll eat for weeks.

Thanks for the info man :)

Is there anything out there that would beat the feathers or are they the best for mackerel?

    LunaC:

I used Hokkais from Lidl (:o ) (see below) & found them to be superb. Was fishing down in Skerries & the mackerel went mad for them.

    Tight lines.
