I replaced my two rear tyres today. They were Eagle F1s as are the new ones. My fronts will be due for renewal in a month or so.
Even at the legal limit the tyres held onto the road - wet or dry. I have to really push the car to get her to step out. They are almost too good!

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1's. Awesome wet and dry grip, but they wear quickly. I dont think you'll get a grippier tyre. Also consider the following tyre which I had and was impressed with from eiretyres.com:

    Toyo
    Summer tyres PROXES T1-R
    225/45 ZR17 94Y RF Rim-protection ** With eiretyres.com only EUR 132,60

What sort of mileage do these grippy tyres last for?

My rears have lasted for 18 months which I think was about 18-20k miles.
Not bad on a RWD car with traction control left un-repaired. I also did one (possibly two) track days on them.

    That is quite OK.

Toyo PROXES are a great tyre, good in the wet and dry.

I did a bit of research.
My 255.40/17 were almost €170 on eiretyres.
I rang around and they were generally over the €200 mark.
Fast Fit in Donnybrook did them for €190.
My fronts will set me back €150 each (235/45/17) from them.
