Ya get some grand stylish gear there for anything from 3 to 15 euro. Only bad thing s sometimes theyll ruin a perfectly good shirt by having a white bit attached to the neck area, making it unwearable tbh.

The amount of times ive seen people on the rob at Penneys in Blanch. Ffs if i was of the thieving persuasion id rob gear that costs more than 3-12 euro :D

Most of the time cheap price means cheap quality and more importantly not unique in any way. I like having clothes that no-one else has seen before so I'll give Pennys a miss agin next time I go clothes shopping.

To be fair, it says on the label on the bra that the bra should be handwashed!
I don't understand people complaining that other people have the same clothes as them. Sure isn't that the way 'trends' are, look at the trend of stripes and polka dots- they're in EVERY clothes shop, not just Penneys.

The clothes in Pennys are cheap but they also look and feel cheap. I reccon if i wore clothing from there it would bring me out in a rash just before it fell apart. I think if you have the money you should respect your body by not concealing it in cheap clothing.
If i buy one good quality item and get alot of wear out of it then that is much more cost effective than lots of cheap things i would wear once at most.

I just got 3 tops for work in Penneys for 19 quid. None of my clothes from there have ever fallen apart. I own loads of skirts, some are really expensive and have fallen to bits but my favourite is my Penneys one for 7.50. I wear it loads and I love it.

That is just a completely snobby attitude. A rash?
That saying- 'knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing' comes to mind when I read your post.

Why would you only wear them once? I have trousers I bought in Penney's 2 yrs ago and they still look fine. As others said here, I get people asking where did I get such and such a cool / nice top or scarf etc. They're amazed when I tell them where and how much.

Pennys are great for cheep casual wear - tshirts and other casual tops, pyjamas, bags, etc. Got a great denim jacket there in a sale a year ago for 8 euro. Padded too, so it's really warm.

Wouldn't find them good if I wanted something a bit nicer - blouses, work trousers, dresses.

"Pennys Best" - LOL. In my day it was "Dunnes Best". Dunnes are great too, and you get the nicer stuff there and it's not too expensive.

Funnily enough, I find the opposite in Pennys for getting things to fit me. I'm usually a size 12 in Dunnes and other shops. Pennys size 12 tops are okay, but jeans size 12s barely go up beyond the knee. Dunno why.

I've bought 100% silk scarves in penney's for something like €3, and pure lambswool sweaters for €11. How is that bad quality? It's a lot better than paying €100+ for a sweater in BT that's cotton and has no warmth for winter, but has a little red and white tab on it to justify the price. Quality is determined by the materials the garment is made from, not the name on the bag when you buy it.

Love Penneys for their underwear and pjs! The selection in their portlaoise branch is pretty bad but i was in the Henry street branch the other day and was very impressed with theirs. Got a nice casual winter jacket, a really nice sweater, a really funky tee shirt and about 12 pairs of socks for under €40! I don’t like their ladies jeans though the cut can be really unstylish and a bad fit.

they're alright for things like socks, but even they fall apart really easily!!

I'm not a fan of Penneys....the clothes are so cheap looking and EVERYONE wears them! I buy things like socks and pyjamas in Penneys because they don't last anyway. I'm actually quite surprised that so many people like Penneys!

Pennys clothes in general are of poor quality. Sure, there a bit cheaper than Dunnes, but I find they go all quare like after a short time. I prefer Dunnes. A bit more expensive maybe, but better quality.

The way I look at it is: I buy lots in pennys cos its cheap..... and instead of buying one expensive t-shirt i can buy two or three in pennys so i'm not in the same one everytime i go out! Why buy one when you can have two or more for the same price. Two cheap ones will last at least as long as one....

I find the clothes fine except occasionally sizes can be unreliable may need larger to normal size and odd clothes can be bad fitting (no probs returning). I have worn their shoes with no problems, I shop for myself and family members there. I LOVVVVVE PENNYS for everything, sheets, clothes, towels, etc; etc.

I think Dunnes have become expensive!!!!!!

Not a fan of penneys myself. I find the sizes are huge, ill-fitting, shapeless and really bad quality. Bought a pair of trousers there once and they were bobbly after wearing them twice.

At the end of the day you can buy bad quality clothes anywhere, i have often gone into river island, and after one wear there is holes in the clothes that i have bought, awear is likewise. I have gone into shops where im a size ten in one shop, 14 in another and 12 in another so to be honest all this stuff happens everywhere. Yes penneys may be cheap and there stuff mightnt be the best quality, but its cheap enough that you can go in get some more or as i said before, if your on a tight budget and are saving. so no i wouldnt turn my nose up at it and i think its a perfectly fine shop.

penneys and heatons are excellent... i shop there and dunnes usually.. dunnes is more expensive though.
I will not buy expensive clothes...
I was watching a UK tv show a while back where they pulled the tags off jeans and asked people off the street to pick out the brand name and the cheap £5 pair... most people picked the £5 pair as the more expensive ones :D

I agree sizes are crazy in lots of shops. Personally I find Penneys sizes to be very generous. I'm not too mad on River Islands clothes and even when I have a good bit of money to spend I'll go in there but not find anything special. I do like A-Wear though but more often then not I'll end up back in Penneys. Suppose you either love or hate Penneys!

Was looking for black work pants and saw a pair in Penneys for €6 and almost identical pair was €30 in A-wear - one guess what pair I bought..

i have a 70 euro voucher for river island and i just cannot spend it, there is nothing in there at all lately. havent bought anything in there in a while.

Penneys is excellent for cheap stuff that's either seasonal or you don't need for too long. I have some nice t-shirts from there, as well as underwear, some sporty type clothes, holiday stuff too.

I find Dunnes has much better quality for a few extra euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 676 ✭✭✭Nickibaby*

Pennys i love pennys for pajamas, socks, underwear. Kids clothes are good in there too because kids grow out of clothes pretty quick so by the time they are worn out the kids have grown out of them anyway.

I would get some basic tshirts in there and holiday gear too. Fair enough the quality isn't great but you get what ya pay for in this life!

The only thing I have against Penneys is that their tops are, eg. 8-10 inclusive, meaning, they're too big for me. Everything else is great tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 460 ✭✭twanda

I live have been in the Penneys stores in Blanch, Kilkenny and Portlaoise and I have to say that the Panneys in Portlaoise is the best I have been to - bargain baskets all the way around the store - different things put in there every day - I often get bras/pyjamas/tops - anything really from the bargain baskets for a euro each or less! And it often happens that I notice the same items in the Blanch store selling at the original retail price.

The one thing I reckon is that you get what you pay for. Penneys is grand if you aren't looking for clothes that will last you years and years.

Personally speaking, I don't shop in Penneys for clothes for myself, as, if you are any way larger (either in height or width), the clothes don't fit correctly. BUT... I have a 6 month old baby and Penneys is absolutely fantastic for babyclothes... 7 bibs is €2.25 (my little one ploughs throw them), vests are 7 for €6, sleeping suits 3 for €9, fleece blankets for €3. The baby has TONS of designer clothes and fancy little dresses that she was bought as gifts, but generally speaking, she wears her Penneys stuff a lot more frequently.

Also, as they cost so little, I don't feel guilty throwing them out once she's outgrown them (whereas a Christian Dior babygro that I got as a gift was so painful to throw away that I've kept it, even though it doesn't fit her and hasn't since she was 6 weeks old :s )

Was in last weekend, absolutly packed with people. I think its a lovely shop, loads of nice decent looking clothes and costume jewelery. The whole ground floor is for women. Its great :D
Although it quite disappointing for men not much selection at all.

Thats not dissapointing at all. :) I think thats a step in the right direction. Seeing men dressed in Pennies clothes is horrendous and offends my sensibalities.

I have 3 rules to stick by (until you find something that you just simply HAVE to have ):
1 Buy the best quality you can afford
    2 Quality before brandname
    3 Quality not quantity
For men Pennies just does not cut the mustard.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Agreed on that Goat. If I ever see another of those "hilarious" slogan tshirts penneys sell it will be too soon!

I've always thought their menswear looked shoddier than the women's clothes, something about the shapes maybe?

Sweet devine jesus anyone wearing one of those "if found, please return to pub" t-shirts should be shot.

Women buy lots of clothes and fashion changes quickly, a dress that you might love this summer won't be top of your list next summer, whereas men's fashion doesn't change in the same way and so clothes need to be of much better quality to last. My husband has had some of his jeans and t-shirts for years and they still looks perfect because they wear and wash well, the same can't be said of penneys clothes for the mostpart.

I still love the penneys bargains, Dunnes have become much better these days tho!

Anyone know if Penneys have any of those really pretty pinkish cream coloured tops like the ones in Topshop/RI? Really want one but I'm not paying about 30e for one!

Is that kind of like a nude colour? There were a few tops like that when I was in on Friday. And a black & nude dress too, which was pretty nice :)

I heart Penneys, although it does get annoying when you see everybody wearing the exact same clothes. They have some lovely casual dresses in at the moment.

Absolutely no offence intended but it totally gets to me when people put kids, especially babies in designer clothes.

They grow at such a rapid pace that it completely defeats the purpose of buying an expensive designer brand that will supposedly last. (I totally understand that it was a gift, I just never see the point of such gifts)

I also can't stand the people that buy their 3 month old child nike runners etc. They cost in and around 20-50 euro, for something they will wear for a month or so at best, and that are pretty bad for a babies feet too (not much support in them)

Maybe it's just me, I have a big thing about waste. Grinds my gears and then some haha

Penneys are great for baby clothes, and kids clothes. They do some really cute dresses and things. I just wish there wasnt such a stigma about giving penneys clothes as a gift

As a general rule I only shop in penneys for their scarves and the occasional must have where they've hit the nail on the head (they did some nice blazers this season) and they're always good for flats to just throw in your bag on a night out

Oh, Penney's bra sizes are mental! I know what size I am, I got measured only about six weeks ago but seriously, sometimes when I buy that size in Penney's, it's waaaay too small and sometimes, too big! I'm just gonna give up which is a shame 'cause they have some really cute lingerie and cheap which is always a bonus!

Penneys do large sizes now. Up to a G (possibly H) cup in some styles

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,298 ✭✭✭Namlub

Love Penneys for their socks (especially the fluffy socks), bags, some jewellery (though a lot of it is really tacky), pjs, belts, make-up bags, knickers and shoes, and they're really good for clothes that you'll probably only be wearing for a few months. They seem to have jacked their prices up a bit though, especially shoes...

Was in Primark in Belfast last week and honestly, I will never even bother going into Penney's again! The difference in quality is staggering. I bought two dresses that look like they're from French Connection or Oasis. The clothes are displayed nicely and there's room to actually move around the different rails.

I honestly don't understand why their buyers in the Republic are so crap! Are they all grannies because it's rare you'd see anything fashionable in Penneys!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,105 ✭✭✭LadyMayBelle

In Primark in Leicester and Nottingham I have bought some really lovely dresses and skirts that haven't been available here...even the fabric you would find stuff in A Wear made out of it.

Bought a pair of leather boots there a fortnight ago and have worn them everyday they are so comfy and also waterproof..love:)

I was in Penneys in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre this evening and as I'm not a regular visitor to the store, I was amazed at the prices of the clothes (mens)

Combats 17 euro, T-shirts from 3 euro, Jackets 25 euro etc. Most of the stuff was under 20 euro and seemed to be decent quality.

Now I'm not a slave to fashion and don't care too much about labels...not alone there I presume?...so for fellas (didn't check out the ladies dept.) who want decent clothes for day to day wear, you can't beat Penneys?

I would be interested in opinions from the more fashion conscious out there.

yeah, Penneys can have very good stuff in it - have an everyday coat for 4 years now, and it's still fine! When it was new, people assumed I spent quite a bit of dosh (at least €70), but when I told them I got it for €13,:eek::eek:! Another coat I have is more formal in style and it looks very sharp - what sort of dosh??? €35 in Pennys! Got a real nice shirt recently for - wait for it - a whopping €5!!! ...and that's one with decent sleeves in it - no shortcuts! :D

All in all, there will be times that there's nothing much in store, but Pennys is always a place you wouldn't pass by - it's always worth a look!

    Regards!

I got a pair of gorgeous grey skinny jeans in Primark in London a few weeks ago- I've been living in them since, go with everything and they were only £8! bargain!

I keep finding really nice coats on sale for 9 euro in penneys recently, it's like they're trying to win back my affections after all the sparkly skangery crap! :D

I got a gorgeous grey military coat for 15 quid a couple of weeks ago.

Their shoes are terrible lately if, like me you don't like heels, and the majority of their accessories are super tacky

Was up in Newry last month and I was shocked to discover they stock the clothes up to a SIZE 20 over the border.

Now, why can't they do that down here in Dublin?

I'm 5 foot 11, a size 14-16 on top and a size 18 on the bottom, yet whenever I try on those sizes in a Dublin-based Penneys, the only thing that'll fit me tends to be of the dress variety or comes from the men' s department.
Unless you're built like a rake, their clothing is just not realisticly cut to fit the average lady.

Whilst I'm on the subject: Why are all the Size 10/ EUR 44 shoes confined to the men?! Not everyone has teeny feet!

Urgh. I see so many lovely things in Penneys and I can't wear about 90% of 'em save for the underwear.

Oh, to have an Evans with Penney's prices....

We are obviously looking in totally different Penneys at the moment! I HATE the shoes at the moment, but love, love the clothes. Went on a spree in Tralee today- the Penneys there is fantastic!

Bought a black v neck boyfriend jumper with sequinned shoulders, so soft and comfy for 15 euro and grey skinny jeans with zip detail, absolutely gorgeous and a fantastic fit for 19 euro.

Also bought a blue/white blazer, kind of preppy style- blue with white trim on the lapels- looks like it cost a fortune but was 15 euro.

Also :o bought a couple of tops that were on clearance- a long line vest, blue with sequins and a white blouse with frill detail all down the front- 4 euro each.

All set now for christmas! There were some gorgeous dresses too, on clearance but had to restrain myself.:(
