Does exactly what it says on the tin - photos of upcoming and current contemporary skateparks. If one of the mods could pin this as a resource so skaters can send the link to local skaters and councillors involved in designing and petitioning for parks to let them know what will make an international, landmark facility that will attract many visitors from all over for years to come...

This is the original of all skate plaza designs in Nantes, France. Built in 2002. The photos are crap, but there's more on agoride.com. Basically, it's smack bang in the middle of the city on a large tarmac slab, surrounded on 3 sides by a variety of benches and up sloping ledges. Probably one of the earliest examples of a park being made to be part of a central town square/park. It's the sort of thing that could be done at somewhere like Wolfe Tone should the opportunity arise.

Whether street plaza , transition , bank or bowl the one thing that all these parks have in comment is that they are concrete.

The majority of concrete park builders are skater run quality companies.
The majority of modular park builders are from a playground equipment / street furniture / playground equipment background and make overprived flatpack biscuit tins.
Councils chuck these down on a concrete (or even worse a tarmac) slab and nobody uses them cos they're complete rubbish and in a few years time they rip them up to use the area as a tennis or basketball court claiming there is no demand for skateparks.
Anyone who lives near an area which has received a grant for a park please e-mail your local coucillors and tell them you want a concrete park.
Seriously go look up who your local councillors are and get on it. If we can start this first wave of park building off right and get parks like the ones above built then future parks will copy these. Councillors know as much about skateparks as you probably do about planning by-laws , they need to be told what to build. If we leave it up to them we will get the easy solution ....biscuit tins on tarmac.

Yea I totally agree... Have you seen the one in Waterford... complete waste of a €100,000.. We are supposed to be getting a concrete one now so hopefully that goes ahead!

There's two grants that have been allocated to waterford one to waterford CITY council .They thankfully have studied what happened with the RSC park and are putting in a proper concrete facility in the peoples park. Waterford COUNTY council also got a grant for €140K for a park in Tramore. I'm not sure if it'll be concrete or modular but they certainly have the budget for concrete.
Information I have is... no work done at all, some design done, not gone to tender, held up by the site being used as a depot for trucks?
Jane O neill is the council engineer you need to talk to on 051 395555.

I'm pretty sure that you've posted 2 different skateparks there. The first and third images are the same park - I think Tosh Townend skates it in TWS's Sight Unseen. Good shi.t though - Site Design Group also did the Middlesborough and DC plazas.
