You apply directly to the college, CAo has nothing to do with plc course and who gets into them!

That's if you're applying to do a PLC. The question was regarding using PLC qualifications as a means of entry into college. In that case you still apply through the CAO you just fill in a different section of the form.

I applied to a PLC last Thursday online. Rang the college on Friday to make sure they got my application.

Nice lady said she will send out a letter, and arrange an interview.

    Very easy!

You apply on the basis of either your leaving cert results or your plc results, you'd have to give both but they'd only consider one.

Wanted comp science in DIT, got enough points, but only managed to scrape a pass in maths.

    Hopefully going for this course.

Wont need to worry about LC maths to get into DIT that way. :)

This will seem like a stupid question but can you only do a plc the year after you leave school?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,557 ✭✭✭GrumPy

What? no of course not. If you apply, and they accept ya, it starts whenever the next term does!

PLC's shoudl get you into most places and I don't think maths is that important. A PLC is a better option than repeating. Ask Irish Grumpy. He is doing a 2 year plc and will get into 2nd year in DIT. So that really means he is only doing one extra year. Which is the same as repeating only you do not have to go to school ever again!

Ask me yeah, :D Just posted in this thread 3 times already NADA

But yeah, no way was I repeating, expecially since I had points to spare for my first choice!! stupid maths....

If you mean doing a FETAC course and using that to get into university - it's a good option but beware: it's very competitive and there are VERY FEW reserved places on any course for those type of applicants. If you do well you'll probably get in SOMEwhere. But not necessarily where you want to go.

I used FETAC to apply to university this year and even though I had full marks I didn't get my first choice. I'm actually thinking of going back to do the leaving cert now. Bit of a reverse situation.

    Good luck.
