I've been working on the dynamics of the left hook, just need a bit more work on it.. I was wondering if there is any excercises I could use to improve it? Strength and power, speed - whichever..

Use a dumbell or Strap Hand Weights on and practice your hooks (right and left).......the weights should build up speed and strength. Don't have the weight too heavy that you are struggling to lift, it should be a nice weight that you are comfortable with but not too heavy (or light for that matter - there should be some strain say after 12-15 throws).

This should be used on Jabs, Crosses and all other punches also!

I reckon you should do general strength training paying paying particular attention to exercises which use the back, abdominal and leg muscles. Compound exercises only. Work on both limit strength and explosive strength. For limit strength lift very heavy weights for 1 or 2 reps. For explosive strength use a slightly lighter weight and concentrate on accelerating the weight as hard as you can. You coudl also incorporate unilateral lifting and olympic lifting.

I don't agree with holding dumbells and simulating punches for 12-15 reps, I think this is neither one thing or the other, sure you'll gain some strength and power but you'll mainly be gaining endurance with that rep range. If you tried to use a heavier weight and lower reps you'd gain more power but the movement would likely become awkward and dangerous and put strain on your wrist and shoulder

So I'd say keep your weight training separate from punching training (bagwork etc.)
