Hi Starting in the DIT this coming sept and was just wondering what the wireless network is like there, if there's one at all.

I'm going to Angier Street one.

PS thought I posted this earlier so sorry if it ended up somewhere else

DIT have a big Wireless Network which is open access. Most of Aungier Street is covered, see www.dit.ie/is for Maps and Locations...

in bolton street the wireless is very good all around the building in general, theres a few dry spots, but you get that from time to time

aungier street has the better wireless of the two main southside DIT's

be sure to sit right beside the two routers either the one in java city or the one down by the arcade machines.

There are also APs in the library in Aungier Street, both floors.
On the 2nd Floor in the Boardroom, covers the main lecture halls.
    5th Floor, Student Common area.
I'm sure there are a few more around the place.

as said already, wireless in aungier street is good, kevin street "snackery" (common area) is pretty pathetic though, hopefully that'll be sorted this year tho

ive seen the 5th floor in ast, but dont recall there being a common area up there?

The common area is on the 4th floor I think down where the Mac labs are. It's for students doing media or something like that.

Which bolton street do you go to? The wireless there blows goats - its breaks down and months pass before it gets fixed. I would say that the wireless in Bolton St. is up at best 50% of the time... at least they havent banned Bebo or porn though, alright!

The wireless in BST is terrible!!!!! Connections are constantly lost. Id recommend one of the 4 computer rooms instead, but there's never a PC free. Good thing you're going to Aungier Street is all I can say.

The top floor in BST is grand, never many computers in the area so rarely lose a connection

You know how it says that it's an unsecure network when you log on to it? Would it be safe to log on to ebay/other similar sites?

yes, when it's says unsecure it just means that anyone can use the wireless network and that you don't need a WEP or PSK password to log on to the wireless internet.
