Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bluetooth Internet Connection?

    Hey,

Is it possible for me to connect to the internet through my phone and route that connection to my laptop over bluetooth?

I'm using a Mac and it asks for a few details i.e. number, name and password when I go to connect the phone through bluetooth. I usually skip this step because it never works.

Does anyone know the right Meteor settings for this?

    Thanks!

Before this will work, you need to call Meteor and ask them to enable full GPRS internet access. Tell them you're trying to connect from a laptop, and they should enable it for you.

In case you don't have the correct modem script for your particular phone (Mac OS X includes hundreds, but doesn't include everything, and Meteor might not be able to send you the correct script), you can find everything you need here:
    http://www.taniwha.org.uk/

Settings for pretty much all cellular networks worldwide:
    http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html

For Meteor, the APN is "my.meteor.ie", the username is "my", and the password is "meteor".

Don't foget you can also do dial up (then again, I'm not fully sure if you can do it on Meteor, you can do it on O2 and Vodafone).

It will be slow, depending on how Meteor do it, but it just may work out cheaper than extortionate GPRS.

I've used GPRS (from a PowerBook G4 at the time) with Meteor before without problems. The only "hitch" I hit is what it initially didn't work. I double checked the settings, and called Meteor. It turned out they had to enable full GPRS internet access (or some such). After they had done that, I was able to connect and use the internet no problems.

    Bloody expensive, though...

for prolonged use you are probably better to use a csd connection because gprs charges are per kilobyte and without a data package in place are prohibitively expensive.
